use to be for a couple years and gave up because it made me super depressed. it made me feel so alienated and annoyed because even if i told "woke" people i was a woman I would just get they/themmed and they acted like they were doing me a favor. and then strangers it was 50/50 whether i would get sirred or maamed. plus the femme i was dating would get drunk and start screaming at me and thought since i was a butch i had to deal with it. theres no happiness to be found in being butch mtf. no reason not to be a gender conforming woman if youre trans. i just got ffs and have been growing my hair out and decided to fully commit to passing and to being a femme woman. have been learning make up recently and its made me way happier than trying to be butch ever made me.

I’m a butch mtf and don’t think that’ll ever change. I’ve always been uneasy around super fem stuff and am more than happy to remain in a kind of gender zone. I read stone butch blues and related a lot in a weird way, and feel like if I was born cis I would be even more masc-presenting than I already am.

It makes it hard for MTF butches who are actually intentionally butch to find community with other MTF butches. MTF butchcopers typically still try to be feminine, and don't really have much investment in butch community or identity, beyond having a label that means "mannish lesbian woman". The thing that's rare is finding a MTF butch that is actually intentionally butch.
