A 30 year old woman who's been living as a drug addict since she was 15 is not going to be, in a developmental sense, where a normal 30 year old woman will be. And comparing herself to that isn't healthy, what really matters is where she should be, developmentally, at 6 months, a year, 2 years, of being clean. At what point should she start thinking about her career, at what point does she start saving for a house, at what point does she start dating seriously, or reconciling with family, or whatever. Whether you were a drug addict until you were 25 or 45 doesn't really change where you should be a year after getting clean. That's the number, the "age" that actually matters.
