yeah! humans are always affected by the social norms and expectations of the society around them. not only does this influence trans and queer people to take hormones when they otherwise shouldn't- they feel like they need to to be "Real Trans"- but this same social influence causes a bunch of other things. a lot of things far, far more insidious than taking some hormones or blockers. things like signing up to fight and die in the military, things like taking on decades of debt to go to university, things like marrying a man/woman and having kids because they think it's the "right" or "normal" thing to do. this is a thing that humans do that will never go away.

people of course are not ONLY influenced by social pressure. we have free will with which we can decide the best things for our own bodies and lives. that's why the trans population on the whole overwhelmingly supports the ability for each individual person to select the medications and transition steps that are right for them. anything else is a violation of bodily autonomy.
