I'm currently also working on my CS degree. This area doesn't seem to have a lot in the way of software engineering or swe adjacent fields, and I can't drive so I'm dependent on public transportation. As it is, I'm struggling to find any remotely IT job now. It's looking real bleak

Internships are nice, but I did mine for a local four person company and while it went well and I was kept on after as a part timer, I ended up being laid off, and now it feels like I almost shouldn't have bothered if not for some of the skills I gained while doing it.
