>>43860357**[spoiler] Takuji is an interesting case where he's really heavily implied to be (some kind of) trans and also probably bisexual but the entire back half of the game ends up fucking it up with a weird confused DID plotline that basically amounts to stacking the twist from Fight Club on top of itself in pursuit of some weird postmodern metafictional point that I may one day come to like but at present I find really muddled and strange.The real shame is he's one of the only trans(ish) characters where his desire for femininity is contrasted against this complete ugly vision of masculinity where he's pretty much and incel who hates his mother and (at the start at least) seems totally disconnected from all of the women around him. It's this really bleak vision that I really relate too and its always right on the edge of feeling really mean and transphobic but its just done with so much empathy from what's clearly something of a self-critical perspective.He's very much me and as much as that makes me hate myself the segments centred around him bring me so much catharsis.[/spoiler]**I honestly really like the kind of "half-trans" characters that appear in a lot of Japanese works because I myself have a strange muddled view on these things and I've never liked the style of interpretation where people flatten down the strangeness of that into binary transness. Of course people can read art however they want but its just that a lot of those cases people who have those kinds of readings get really insistent about them and are outright hostile if you don't agree. There's also cases like Bridget, who's characterisation in Guilty Gear X2 I connect with a fair bit who ended up getting pseudo-retconned into a binary trans woman and as much as I'm glad those people feel represented it feels a little wrong for that to be at the cost of people who connected with that earlier incarnation. Some people who have played the VN claim its the latter but as someone who only watched the animu the vibe I got was the former.
