We unironically need more representation of the ugly sides of being trans. Jax is an abusive asshole, but her whole demeanor is a huge coping mechanism. She's trying to act aloof and disinterested because being her genuine self was met with ridicule and rejection, and lashing out is her way of keeping others at arm's length so they don't find out who she really is. Abusers usually aren't abusers because they chose to be assholes, but because they learned that attacking others is effective at protecting yourself. Jax is bullying Gangle because she has the courage to be open about her emotions and to show vulnerability even if she's afraid of doing so, something that Jax never managed to do herself. If we want people to not behave like Jax we need to enable them to explore who they are without getting judged and attacked for it. Transition would have saved her. If someone's takeaway from Jax' character arc is "trannies are assholes" and not "hurt people hurt people" and "kindness saves lifes" then they shouldn't watch anything more complicated than Tiktok compilations

My friend that made me watch this show is a repper. He's admitted to wanting to be a woman but hasn't taken any steps towards transitioning. I've offered getting him estrogen or trying different pronouns but he hasn't taken up any offer and it's difficult to talk to him about it. Not sure how I can help.

I had this issue with my ex when I thought he might be trans or non-binary after the expressed some fantasies. Encouraged him to grow his hair out. Helped dress him more unisex and androgynous. Offered to help him make his avatar more feminine which he refused. At the same time he would get highly uncomfortable anytime he was mistaken for or called a woman but loved when I would call him Daddy or such. He would get highly uncomfortable around other presenting trans folk. He would shut down any of my own attempts at feminine gender expression and either ignored it or made me feel like a freak. It was then I started to realize he was just transphobic, had body dysmorphia, and was trying to push me into what he wanted for himself, a big tall muscle man, but could never be due to his genetics. It's also why he really leaned into the gay community even though he was prison gay at best since he convinced himself no woman would want him. I wanted him but I wasn't allowed to want him as a woman so it kept me repping and struggling through the relationship of why this guy I deeply loved had zero drive for any sort of romance or intimacy with me. All he ever wanted was his dick sucked and even that was treated as a chore to him and something to get out of his system rather than an act of love or attraction.
