Hassled and assaulted the most by cops, randos, and clients, the least able to get jobs, stable housing, AIDS treatment, education etc. People had to do more community organizing and rebelled more. There were plenty of white people and people of other races as well, but a lot more black and brown representation and leadership than in other parts of American life, that's for sure. Even in the early 00s when I stumbled onto the scene on the west coast (SF Bay Area), there were still some elder black and brown trans people revered for community organizing, and most of the people I worked with were black, brown, or asian (until I started working at bigger nonprofits). Unfortunately there should have been a lot more of them around, but black and brown trans people died constantly for a number of reasons.
