>>43955383she was annoyed because the mother is the one person that a man is supposed to hold the upmost reverence for in that part of society- though mrs soprano is a narcissist and shown to be super self-centred. it's why you see tony shift from a perspective that his mother is incapable of doing any wrong and flipping out at the therapist, to nearly smothering her because his entire view of how an italian mother is supposed to be gets upended. also why junior was getting extremely angry at tony putting her in a home despite it being out of concern the show isn't really written from an anti-american standpoint, it's presented as the way things are/were (good and bad), which is why it kinda resonated with me so much as someone who has spent a considerable chunk of my life in various parts of the us and elsewhere. it's not obviously trying to force the american civil religion and programming down your throat but it's not portraying any of it as a great satan either. honestly watch it casually and if anything piques you go back and look into it a bit more. the performances alone really held me
