I know more men who like CCS over Sailor Moon, though.
Sailor Moon was more popular with gays (male and female) and straight women. Straight men usually watched it for the action and the transformation scenes.
I think the most AFAB fanbase for a magical girl series by far is Tokyo Mew Mew.
Precure is popular with grown men in Japan, and of course it's very popular in /a/.
Interestingly it seems like trans women mainly like the aesthetics of the magical girl genre and its characters, but I don't know many who actually have watched these and discuss them with in-depth knowledge.

As a cis guy I enjoy Sailor moon crystal vs the original, but I don't enjoy either one, too low IQ, but at least crystal has some emotional depth while the original one is just low IQ comedy. But their soul/art is beautiful I think it's just aimed at children.
