They spam because posting it doesn’t trace back to them, but its presence on the site requires that Josh take it down or he’d be held liable himself. This is why he’s complaining about ISPs and DDoS mitigation here, his site is blacklisted by the only companies capable of keeping it up and free of spam so the people who want it down are pushing to get him in trouble with the law by hosting material they put on his site. Strictly speaking, he doesn’t do anything actually illegal, but he is legally obligated to take the site down if he can’t keep illegal material off of it, and he can’t keep illegal material off of it if all the private companies hosting mitigation services choose to not do business with him. This would be fair enough normally, freedom of association and all of that, but the kicker here is that he’s actually got a lot of companies willing to do this for him that are blocked by the super major monopoly tier giants such as cloudflare that these smaller companies rely on. His site is morally detestable by many, but it does bring up interesting Internet legal questions now and then such as this and his debanking situation. Should private companies have the power to suffocate legal sites off the internet? Should private companies have the power to deny you the ability to make a payment? That second one in particular has been fascinating to watch, never realized how much your life can be ruined if you’re stuck with cash and checks as an internet based service.
