Do I count as LGBT if I'm a Straight White Male, cishet, but bisexual? Mostly straight, but not opposed to gay stuff if the guy's cute. I feel like I'm standing in the periphery, maybe?

Idk I've never really thought about bisexuality as an identity before, and it's weird to me, seeing people claim it as one and making a flag for it. I guess I feel dfferently because I'm not forced to make myself a part of the gay community or smth, and I have the option of just being straight.

Saying that bixesuals are LGBT sorta feels odd when nobody is completely straight, and everyone would technically quality for membership.

Cishet but bisexual what. If you're bi then you're the bi in lgbt

>bisexual discourse
pic related

>I'm not forced to make myself a part of the gay community
What do you mean "forced"? Gays aren't "forced" to be part of the gay community any more so than you're "forced" to make yourself part of the bisexual community.

>I have the option of just being straight
You don't actually. You're bisexual. You have the option of being in a relationship with the opposite sex, that doesn't make you straight. If a gay or straight person decided to be celibate their whole life, was that them making the choice to be asexual?

>nobody is completely straight
Yeah, so, this is actually just an entirely untrue statement.
>>
>>44423075
i mean sure but realistically no one who is actually queer (gay or trans) is going to think of you as one because you fundamentally lack any identifiers that you are part of that community and I will 100% judge u quietly if you say faggot around me unless i rly like u
>>
>>44423601
"Faggot" :)

>>44423580
I meant forced as in I'd have to be gay, do gay thngs, etc. unless I wanted to be celibate permanently. No choice to be straight instead, it wasn't worded well, but the point is that bi people can dip their toes in both pools.

>You don't actually. You're bisexual. You have the option of being in a relationship with the opposite sex, that doesn't make you straight.
What? Whaddya mean I'm not straight? That seems like a pretty extreme take, why do you think that way?
>>
>>44423840
By definition you aren't straight
>>
>not opposed to
It really depends. If you find your life is impacted negatively by homophobia then I would say it counts. If you're in a position where you regularly hold some kind of power over other gay men however there is perhaps an understandable animosity towards you if you abuse that power, but imo there's plenty of fully gay men in the so-called lgbt community who abuse their privilege as well.

I can't comprehend how stupid you have to be to come to conclusions like this. This world is so doomed lmao.

Could you explain why, please?

Personality traits are the result of two things your environment and biology. So in order to believe everyone is attracted to both sex's, you'd be ignoring every scenario where someone has a sufficiently negative experience to not be attracted, or a sufficiently different biology. Like in the case of someone who has been traumatized by someone of one sex. Or who has been raped. Or who has a dysfunctional pituitary gland. Or who's first experience seeing certain genitalia was not pleasant and left a lasting negative impression.

It's not even the fact that you can't imagine these scenarios. It's the fact that you presumably have no idea how evolution works. It takes a wide variety of organic matter and churns out many, many variations of humans. So that should tell you if you are physically capable of not being attracted to something, there is surely SOMEONE who isn't attracted to it.

The worst part is I see comments like yours all the time. People who are either actually clinically retarded, or who try to bend reality to fit whatever they prefer rather than doing research or contending with outside veiws.

But at least you ask questions. I genuinely didn't expect that, so I called you retarded indirectly. I take that back. Anyone who genuinely wants to learn is intelligent in my book.

Eh thanks, I'm a curious type.

I think we're talking about two sorta different things. I was thinking more Kinsey Scale, and how a lot of people don't sit at either extreme where there's absolute 0% homosexual attraction of any kind. Like some guys would kiss another man if they're at a bar with dim lighting, a few drinks in them, and being pressured into it. Or maybe they'd have stray thoughts, etc.

I didn't mean to say that everyone's actually bi or anything, Maybe I'm wrong and dumb, but I can agree with what you said. Thinking about something and acting on it are two very different things, maybe I can't really understand that because I'm not uhh...

I'm not straight? Fuck.

Fret not! I will help you explore this.

I would say sexuality is defined by what your body reacts to and that's it. You get the feel good chemicals when you see something, that's that.

But there's some tricky reasoning in saying you're "attracted to X gender" that I'm guessing you are stuck on.

First of all people use gender and sex interchangeably. If a female gets catfished by someone presenting as male but who's sex is female, does that make them gay? No. They are only attracted to the masculine image of the parther who was catfishing them.

So you can not always know someone's sex and be attracted to them and that doesn't make you gay.

Then there's tricky issue number two. Just testing out your sexuality whether in your head or in real life doesn't make you gay. Testing can just be attraction to pleasure, or taboo, or anything that arouses you that isn't necessarily gender. Most people have questioned if they're gay and found it was just curiosity.

>nobody is completely straight"
>I have the option of just being straight.

Care to explain? If its your choice why make the thread?
>>
>>44424729

You literally think sex assault trauma or SEEING genitalia once can change someone's sexuality? Do you realize how dumb that is? It's like saying gays are gay because they got molested.

...well now I'm confused. The way you define it, I'm not really bi at all. Was I just bicurious? Does it not count if I'm 90% straight and would only maybe do gay things with gay boys sometimes?

I don't understand myself as well as I think I do.

You are LGBT, in a broad sense, if
i) you engage in non-heteronormative sexuality
and in a narrower sense
ii) if you participate in the relevant movement, and/or subculture
Yes, many bisexuals can therefore somewhat easily not be part of LGBT. However, it is your choice whether you want to act in such a way. Traditionally, men who have sex with men in any capacity had no choice here, so bisexuals of course fell under the umbrella. Nowadays, in some places, even that might fly under the hood.

Ultimately >>44423886

>>44424854
It is of course impossible to be in that sense 0 % or 100 % on the Kinsey scale. Thus, it is about voluntary, sexual behavior.

Had to reverify my email what a pain.

Your sexuality isn't intrinsic or necessarily a strong cognative influence. Especially when you are younger.

It's common that if someone finds something disgusting the association is all it takes.

That's just the pavlovian tendency to be disgusted by things that have anything to do with a negative experience.

It can seem like a small experiences to outsiders but that has no baring on the level of disgust which is all that matters.

That's why you can get PTSD from something that looks way less severe than what someone who is healthy went through. Studies for all this on hand if you want it.

But honestly you need to use your brain sometime. Our sexuality doesn't come from nowhere and I don't think you thought about it at all before you questioned me.

>>44425286

Are you OP? If the fact that they are male arouses you it's gay if it doesnt it's not and you are just bicurious.
