>>44462338I just finished moby dick and it was pretty sluggish at times but really really enjoyable especially the last 150-100 pages or so. i did feel like it couldve been way shorter than the 600 pages that it is but other than that it was a really good book. all of the omens and symbolism is really cool and the way melville (or ishmael) describes whales is really interesting. planning to read count of monte cristo next. :D also please read brothers karanazov right now
>>44462338Been reading the bible to study it and learn about it. Kind of a slog to go through, but I do recommend reading through the 4 canonical gospels. Interesting to see the differences between them and learn about how they probably came to exist. Some of the prose is even pretty effective literature about Jesus.

I don't remember much of it now, but have read a bit of old testament recently..coming to understand the book as a collection/combination of many disparate beliefs across hundreds or thousands of years has made it a more interesting read for sure..
>>44462338I read 1Q84 recently. kinda loved & hated it. it was redundant, slow paced, and a lot of the most interesting plotlines fizzled out for no reason. Also, there was a fucked up sex scene, along with an old japanese pervert's thoughts on women's bodies throughout over 1000 pages. But there were also a lot of parts that were so well written that it made me emotional. I felt the feelings he was trying to get across. I just read Narcissus and Goldmund by Hermann Hesse. It was entertaining and surprisingly easy to read, and had interesting insights about art and being a creative person and about tension of rationality and emotion. I think I'll start drawing again with the inspiration of this book. >>44462820Haven't read the Brothers Karamazov yet but Dostoyevsky is good, absolute classic for a reason. Crime and punishment got me hooked. Brothers Karamazov is a massive book, but Dostoyevsky's shorter and less known works can also be good for those who want to get into his world but aren't used to 1000-page epics. Uncle's dream (дядюшкин coн) was a kind of tragic but fun one.
