I'm super duper confused at this interaction between two of my friends.

>Me and Friend 1 help Friend 2 move things to a new home
>Friend 2 thanks Friend 1, telling him that he believes Friend 1 helped him out of a genuine desire to good, rather than it just being "an ego thing like it usually is when you help people"
>Friend 1 gets mad and sulky even though he was complimented
