I just did my first injection and honestly that really didn't hurt very much. The thing is two months is not long enough for the full effects of hrt, it's just long enough to feel the beginning effects. I can imagine a large sunk cost fallacy pushing people to continue until they feel they've had a full experience of the changes, which takes like 3 years. Plus tons of confounding factors like social transition, etc can keep a person distracted during the whole process; you might not have time to fully reflect on it until a long while into hrt.

Also people in that category (hrt for two months then stop) if they genuinely desisted, are probably no longer in contact with trans spaces or people. Sort of an unknowable group.

I was so nervous regarding needles I passed out several times the first few injections, and I was so nauseous I almost threw up for weeks after. At some point I got over it. It still makes me queasy, but I know how quickly it's over, and that helps a lot.
You practically cannot mess up hrt, it's such an insignificant medication even if you screw up the injection at worst you go without a dose for a week, but it can't end up killing or even harming you in any way.
You just buy needles from your local pharmacy. It's difficult to be fully "discreet" about ordering them, but buying them online is reception-free and the physical store clerks might ask what medication you're taking with it, but nothing more. Legally, you can't be a suspect of anything just from buying needles.
