Halloween Editionprevious: >>44980633Goal of the thread: Talk to a friend or loved one, or in a pinch, feel free to socialize with us. Talking to people is a human need, even to those of us who exhaust quickly from communication.Daily goals can be repeated. Remember to keep score, it can only go up!>What is this thread for?Getting better is hard, and sucks. A lot. It does not get easier doing it alone.Share resources and experiences with combating depression, anxiety, personal issues, achieving or maintaining a healthy weight, etc.>Why is this thread /lgbt/?Struggles with mental and physical health are an indisputable part of /lgbt/ life, be it from dysphoria, social pressure, heartbreak, or just unfortunate lifestyle choices.>Notes to consider:Please be civil. Shame is your greatest enemy in fighting urges of self abuse (be it sh, drugs, or just self deprecation). Relapsing into bad and unhealthy habits is to be expected, the goal is to increase the average amount of time it takes between relapses. Any improvement is a victory no matter how small. Your worth and right to get better are non-negotiable. And most importantly:WE ARE NOT THERAPISTS, WE DON'T REPLACE MEDICATION>Note on adviceGeneric advice won't necessarily help you in particular, but for those it does it is an essential foundation to build future progress on, not a miracle cure. Do not underestimate the effects subtle changes to your lifestyle can have. Try first, keep us posted on your progress, build from there. We are *always* short on self help resources, so if anything was useful to you, let us know!NOTE: This general is slow moving, so sometimes people reply to you cross-thread! Apart from the GOTT, here are a few things you can do _today_ to make your life a little better. Keep a diary and write down every success. Some you may do as often as you please, but write down each one individually! You deserve it! Do not feel pressured to do all, but feel free to select one or two!- prepare 1 load of laundry- do 1 load of laundry- read one page of a book or manga you have been putting off- cook yourself a meal, or try learn to make a simple dish- eat a meal- pick up items on the floor for 5 minutes- make your bed- if you have a bad habit, try making it more inconvenient (putting things in hard to reach places for example)- do the dishes for 3 minutes- write down one thing you are grateful for (from abstract things to something like a cute image you saw)- Clean up 1m^2 of your floor (~40x40 in)- Open your window for 10-20 minutes- try to exercise for 5 min (walk outdoors, walking stairs, whatever you wish)- take out the trash- drink a glass of water- put one item of trash in the bin- reach out to an online contact (perhaps even try arrange spontaneously meeting up with an IRL contact near you!)- BONUS: Repeat a goal to hit a milestone (1 book chapter rather than a page, the laundry pile, the floor of one room, etc)Unofficial group chats maintained by kind anons of /sig/:IRC: presently defunct afaik.Discord: https://discord.gg/pUuXdBjKX2
>>45126589I'm at kind of a weird point right now. I've basically just been sitting on my ass since the beginning of the year, 2 years if we don't count correspondence studies, and I don't really see things changing. I mean I don't mind. I'm really getting into video games for the first time in my life and I'm writing a book, reading books, stuff like that. I think I'm going to be 29 soon. I've moved out twice and crashed back both times. I tried the careerslop but it was unfulfilling and made me miserable. Money is going to run out eventually but right now it's not an issue because officially I'm taking care of family members and they pay me for that with money to get from the government. So technically /sig/anon is paying for this. Thanks /sig/anon, you're the best! I'm applying for disability too while I'm at it. I don't think I'll get money from that though so whatever. My parents don't mind too much either because I take care of the dog while they are away for weeks at a time.So that's, like, the most optimistic way of looking at it. I'm probably going to be that guy who still lives with his parents when he's 40, never had a partner, has no friends and works at a gas station or something? I'm just not really sure how to feel about that, but all the alternatives seem worse. My psychiatrist and therapist keep telling me that I should be grateful for what I have and I'm trying but it feels my life is, uhm, over? I don't know. Maybe I should cross that bridge when I get to it. /bloggu

>>45043272>I saw sig again and figured saying hi here was as good as anywhereHeya Anon, sorry for the long ass time to respond, but I hope you've been doing okay? I know how it feels when your fingers carry you to 4chan before your mind catches up with you.>Wishing good things for you all, and I hope you're doing well siganonI've been a bit low energy recently, and took a bit of a break the past week.>>45041952>>45041958>>45041962>now i just feel screwed, the market on these thinkpads are so brutal right now its insane.Which is ludicrous, having a T540p myself. They used to be the go-to for affordable, sturdy, repairable machines. The current hardware situation in general is an utter clown show.>I don't study very hard but I do fineIn my experience, depending on what you study, this is normal in the first few semesters, and should change a bit past the third.>I'm having fun stillThat's the most important part in my book! Helps with retention.>Nothing like spending other people's money.Unironically what its there for! I'd die on that hill.>So I've still been lusting after nice things I've had in mind for months but fear buying.Do indulge in treating yourself to nice things from time to time, Anon!>interpersonal conflicts>I think it is inseparable from the personality required to do well in the reality of my field. Some friction between certain kinds of people is unavoidable, and sometimes even enriching, I find. Like, I have butted heads with some dear friends on the reg and it tended to be intellectually stimulating usually.>it gets more lonely, and I get more drunk. That is of course worrying, but.. it sounds like you are also getting in contact with more people again.>totalitarian personality combined with selfishness and/or retardation, which also fits the profiles of NIMBYs.That is a flavor of person I do recall from especially elementary and middle school teachers, myself.>>45052393>I have lived poorly...In what way, Anon?
>>45050828>how to cope with anhedoniaThat's a big struggle for many when they're in a pit. A lot of the time the question is the root cause. Has it been a case of you enjoying less and less until nothing did anything anymore?>>45056133First of all I hope you had a great time! I see you're following noah's work too. Sounds like you've been stepping out of your comfort zone to treat yourself to something nice, that's something to be proud of, Anon. Also, cute you're posting some art from noah to catch my eye, I appreciate the gesture.>>45055513That was actually just me this time around, hah. I was curious if someone would catch the reference since I feel like there is some l/g/bt overlap present ITT. I used to be one of the first people who occasionally volunteered to keep the emacs/lisp general up, though I fell off of that when I started /sig/.>>45056581>I'm experimenting with different showering routinesOh nice, how is it going?>>45058522>Parents went on another round of bitching about politics and I kinda snappedI cannot blame you, this was my Christmas for a couple years. I'd love to hear more about your general circumstances, if it's alright.
>>45054685>>45055303>>45058113>>45066764I hope you all know how much I appreciate the encouragement you give me, so frequently too..I have become rather slow compared to 3 years ago, mostly due to ever shifting circumstance, but I am glad to be appreciated.>>45062296>Hello intersex born trans woman.>I wanted to ask if getting hrt would be overkill on me?As far as fertility is concerned it would absolutely suffer from HRT as far as I understand. Bear in mind though that even Finasteride can affect fertility to my knowledge, which you might also want to consider around 30 depending on your T levels and genetics.>Id love to remove my body hair ofc and other than that I dont have many complains about my looks other than my skin being not very smooth. In that case you likely want to look into laser first and foremost. Bear in mind I'm a cis guy though so you might also wanna ask /hrtgen/.
>>45059854>>45067002>Went crazy well everyone was so nice and the author I asked for an autograph from gave me an oak sapling from a 600 year old treeI'm happy for you that the conference went so well! Sounds like it was a very replenishing experience overall.>>45043984>>45049228Alright bun, I finally got around to ask (regarding >>45026369).The thing with cybersec in particular is that it tends to be a typical pick because it's a safe choice. The catch with that is that a LOT of people have that exact same idea. The thing that you need to focus on if you want to go in that direction is to first get a solid ground to stand on, that is, you need to study enough to have an idea what kind of cybersec you even want to get into (e.g. embedded systems, network stuff). In other words no project could prepare you for that specifically at your current stage.>who will ruin his life and everyone else's for no other reason than he feels like itThat checks out.>I am going to bed now.Hope you got plenty of rest since, bun.
>>45061308>I'd like a full on guide to skincare in particular, not just moisturizer and sunscreen. Not my wheelhouse unfortunately but this has become such a frequent question I gotta look into it.>>45063279>i NEED to get my brain in order within the next 3 days>literally lost the mental skill to lock tf in.Hey Anon. I am late to the party, but I would really, really love to do at least a post mortem with you, and take your hand to help you sustainably work on your procrastination before everything is on fire again.>>45063522>my doctor just retired and i might crash out desuOh fuck, general doc or specialist? Did he work alone or did he share his facilities with a colleague?>>45071382>It did. Got some bad news though.Sorry to hear about the bad news, did you post them already? (still catching up with last thread)>>45072340>I wish I could be pretty for a day.One thing I have learned is that, especially in romance, the things your partners will find beautiful about you will often terrify, confuse and delight you at the same time. It is not the same as what you wish for, but it may be something that will make you happy to experience.
That's it for tonight.>>45072742>it's my teenhood game and i've played 50 hours last two weeksIt sounds like you're having a lovely time, Anon! I'm glad to hear you're finding joy in a teenhood fav.>>45072484>been pretty nice got done with a midterm on friday, so got an extra free weekend.Oh, great news! Hope you had tons of fun with your friends.>wbu siganon?Overall the last week was a blur, I feel like next week is gonna be less intense, and I am more rested now. I am currently in France for work reasons and the strikes and riots make a mess of my schedule but nothing I haven't navigated before.>>45073064>started using retinol on my body a few times a week. smo>i also probably have kp.I believe there's also skincare routines that can help with KP, but I am not well-versed on the subject. Definitely keep us posted!>>45076137>Why does everything hurt now?Hey Anon, are you the one who often speaks up about headaches and the like?>>45077667>take it easy, bossThanks Anon, I did. I needed way more of a break than I initially hoped.

Good night
>>45128448well, i go make frankenpad now, much cheaper. parts on the way. i have had the metal laptops, now it will be plastic. that is scary, i tend to drop things. hopefully, i will not mess it up. never done this kind before, plastic clips, lcd replacement, etcwent camping again, different class, different community college, super rich one, not camping-specific class. it was a shitshow. the rich kids, its true they're spoiled and immature. group tents were provided for entire class, boys/girls/remainder tents, but they kicked me out, because i am not part of their clique, but they would not dare say it straight to my face. so i said fine, and took all my stuff out of the tent and laid it under the stars, and then they came again to harass me with the TA, shining lights in my face, about how they were just confused, then dragged out the reserve directors wife to say the same thing.... "do you want to talk about it"i am the one who got the fire started in front of near everyone, when the TA floundered, this is not my first time, clearlyspoiled retards, this is not an emotional matter, talk to those spoiled brats if you want, the low is 55F, go away. they are just overgrown children, it was impossible to have a conversation for it was all gossip, and they still point lights at people.... the only upside to that place is that they are very rich, and dump new linen shirts to the reuse clothes rack, so i did get a nice piece, and hopefully i will get more stuff.prof chewed them out, but in the way that flies over the heads of children, in the subtle way so the lawnmower parents can't eat him,
then i got home, and my mom served pasta, and there is an additive in certain jarred pasta sauces that gives me diarrhea, and i tasted it and refused to eat the bowl, and she's the one who got mad that i tossed it. i did swallow a bite, so now i am sick with dread, and awake too late, because i am starving, afraid to eat anything.well, at least i know where the problem lies now. i carpooled, and though the driver was supposed to take two others, they flaked, and we talked alone, and he had some maturity, life exp.i miss bf and alcohol is good caloriesbut i cant have anything. i've had to move so much this semester, what an annoyance
>>45130085probably because he is a polyfag
>>45128514>That checks outYeah, there's nothing I can do there. At the end of the day, he's gonna do what he wants to do.All I can do is try to position things so that he doesn't hurt us too much in the process. There's a reason I have the details of the local hotel service ready in case I need to leave his place in a hurry.I should probably check in with them for the actual prices. Another thing to save up for just in case.>Hope you got plenty of rest since, bunIt's been up and down but I have made a conscious effort to be healthier in that way.I can only ever get 6 hours of sleep before a work day though, so that's an issue to correct.
