this is not true.You can do both or your have a shitty PI and you should switch labs. Practically every professor I know met their spouse in grad school and also got their research done.

I did a PhD in chem and I still ended up working at Walmart and at a gas station before I switched careers and got an analytical slave job that was highly unethical and fired me for being the tranny that didn’t want to lie to the FDA about test results. I’m a plumber now.

Don’t waste your life in academia; it’s pointless and over saturated and unlike the job market, every postdoc position gets 1000 actually qualified applicants with 10 publications.
