Why is it that when my mom congratulates me on something i dont really feel anything, but when my male coworker gives me a high five i suddenly feel happy for the first time since achieving said thing.
-..
Basically i finished business school, passed. And since i passed ive been depressed as fuck because it felt like a hollow victory because it was easy. My mom kept congratulating me but it felt hollow the whole time and it didnt cheer me up much.
....
But since my male coworker congratulated me on it today and gave me a high five i feel reall really good about myself, and it like finally sunk in that i achieved something. It feels... good...>_>

Is praise from men just ontologically more rewarding and meaningful? Should i design my life around getting as much praise from men as possible?
I thought i had mommy issues but what if i actually have daddy issues?

Lots of thoughts. Yours?

You claim you don't have mommy issues yet you use her as the primary point of comparison here, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss her. The way you identify a random male coworker and men in general with the father seems to be influenced by your attitudes toward your mother. Perhaps on a repressed part of your psyche you feel she was somewhat of a slut, as in "any man will do"; on the other hand, maybe you feel she was too frigid, too hostile with men, so you unwittingly seek to compensate for that deficiency in her.

Moms have every incentive to be nice to their children so praise from them can feel hollow. Praise from a colleague feels more rewarding because he has zero reason to do it other than genuinely meaning it (or wanting to fuck you)
