How does the board feel about Dissociative Identity Disorder. Is it real or is it all larp?

A tranny i met confessed to me that she had it after knowing her for a while. She seemed pretty serious but I find it all a bit hard to believe so im asking the bright minds of tttt for guidance here

idk but Mr Robot is one of my favorite shows of all time
>>

its real but its not like what you imagine it is so really its not real but the disease called that is real. If someone claims to be straight up switching characters like mr robot then u know they are faking
>>
>>45158532
actual Dissociative Identity Disorder exists and is debilitating,
Plurality has a lot of larpers in it, but ultimately is also real. some people just function different.

i can speak on it.
i get wild uncontrollable swings between multiple personalities and it fucking SUCKS. it feels like three pairs of arms are taking turns tearing at my psyche.
it might be other peoples' way of coping or whatever, but every time i see a pluralkit in a discord i feel nothing but contempt. its not healthy but its the honest reaction; looking on as hundreds of other people are having fun pretending theyre cartoon characters and im fighting for my damn life every other day. its on the same level as the disembodied voices that sometimes scream at me. life is not fair.

I know little about DID but I do know split brain experiments in seizure patients indicate that there are essentially a multitude of "you"s inside, which only believe they're a single unified you because they work together like multicellular organisms.
Just treat people kindly and assume good faith in everyday life. If you feel that helps trans people, then do the same with DID people.
>>
DID has a huge diagnostic overlap with BPD and I think that people who experience either can have difficulty with identifying behaviors they seemed to do, this doesn't change the responsibility they have for those behaviors even if it feels like "they" haven't done it.

At the end of the day I think all identity is a larp
>>
>>45158532
there are of course occasional people who actually have DID, but 99% of anyone you meet, and 100% of people online who claim to have it or are plural or are "systems" are fake
>>
>>45158570
plural is 100% larp bullshit
there is 0 evidence at all to support it, bunch of dumb ass tumblr fags pretending to be a collective entity

I can fully believe that it exists, i looked more into it and the science doesnt seem like bullshit. im now trying to find out what extent everything else attached is real or larp. She told me after i saw something i shouldnt have. She looked like she was going to explode when she told me so i dont think she wanted to at all. I had heard of it before but in the 202 tiktok way so i just want to be a good friend and not enable her into making herself miserable if something isnt real or something

>>45158660
Since you got experience, whats your opinion on the more controversial stuff like amnesia and introjects and to what extent each part can be different. Can you have like, different skills or speech patterns or something? Are they all just different modes or is it like different people and shit? Sorry if thats a lot of questions im just curious

>>45158672
like picrel in a way?

I side with gleglehon tbdesu, they already said there would no point in arguing. Pursuing a debate like this is just stupid lol.

the DSM5 does not consider DID real either, or at least, it is heavily debated.
both are subjective trauma based experiences that do not reflect in any literal measurable way beyond individual experience and anecdotal evidence.
The only thing causing plurality to be less accepted than DID is the concept of people larping it, however people larp both.
as someone who experiences Plurality the only difference that makes me comfortable knowing we DON'T have DID is that we do not experience amnesia between eachother.
beyond that there is no function to 'fix' either disorder other than therapy and attempts to remove it in the first place.

To put it differently, I'm not sure there is any 'proof' I can give, for both there are no differences in brain structure, little to no studies done, and it is largely overshadowed by people who do it for the aesthetics.

ok so you have nothing at all to say and are just another dumb ass grifter trying to convince others of your made up schizo babble

>whats your opinion on the more controversial stuff like amnesia and introjects
i can only speak on my own. ive never had straight blackouts and ive never had a split right in the middle of a conversation or anything as violent as that. different skills i dont believe so, those types of things are stored subconsciously and in your nerves+muscles so theyre always there. now different preferences for how those skills are used, sure. same with speech patterns, theoretically. but generally everything is still being pulled from the same "pool" so to speak, theres just a difference in what is being pulled and what is being conveyed from personality to personality.
this varies greatly obviously dependent on how violent the switches between personalities are. i know some people claim to have periods of full amnesia where they come to and dont remember a single thing they did as the "other". i cant say whether theyre correct or just delusional, only that it must be horribly traumatic.

unless i have a new edition or something DID is listed in there as being a regular dissociative disorder like the other ones. also whats the difference between being plural and having DID i dont really get that. Seems like the amnesia would be someone required for there to be separation but i obviously know nothing

>>45158734
what about different genders or sexualities or shit like that. also the introject thing if you dont mind. sorry i dont mean to pry its just that all the things i find online i either dont trust fully or is full of clinical speak that doesnt really answer anything specific. if theres anything else that you could think of that i should know idk what questions i should really be asking here lol

>>45158679
do u think its also similar to how BPD can have splits in perception and mood states, same mechanism?

I am NOT going to validate someone who identifies as an literal anime character. It's humiliating
>>
>>45158726
>The only thing causing plurality to be less accepted than DID is the concept of people larping it, however people larp both.no, it's because the plural communities are filled with literal children who have no clue what the DSM even says but are just validating each other's experiences no matter how nonsensical and inane
>>

former close friend of someone with diagnosed DID here. irl it mostly manifests as a memory disorder, the amnesia is going to be the most obvious symptom you actually notice. i'm not a neurologist but i believe it has something to do with the part of your brain that stores memories as like a continuous narrative being defective in people with DID, impaired by the severe early childhood trauma that causes this disorder. the "identities" (what people now call alters) have their own memories and hold different pieces of information, this is compartmentalisation which is a key coping mechanism for people with DID. so they have memory gaps that they have no control over, and it can range from not remembering core memories to things as simple as them forgetting plans you made with them. they also typically have pretty intense reactions to anything that triggers their trauma, but a lot of time they'll just feel really detached. that's the dissociation part. this is the best way i can explain it.
>im asking the bright minds of tttt for guidance here
idk chief if she genuinely does have DID it's not easy. it's a very hard disorder to live with and it's not easy on friends of the person either, especially if you have your own issues with emotional volatility which will trigger the hell out of the DID person because more often than not they were raised by emotionally volatile people. every day of my life i think about my friend and wish i was better, if i had a time machine and one wish i can honestly say i would not go back and inject 12 year old me with estrogen but instead i would go back to the first day we met and do literally everything for the next couple of years differently. too late for that now so i'll probably never see her again. so my guidance is that if this person really has DID and you want any kind of close relationship with them you need to be very grounded, mature and able to not take their identity shifts personally and respect their boundaries.
>>
>>45158767
>different genders
>introjections
i cant speak authoritatively on either of those. functionally sure, but only insofar as those aspects of the whole person were already present, subconsciously absorbed or not. one alter being gay/trans and another straight/cis is more a sign of internal turmoil, more than that i dont know. i dont trust clincal-talk too, but my views are hardly valid either.

in my original statement I said
>the DSM5 does not consider DID real either, or at least, it is heavily debated.
there is an entire section on Wikipedia for Validity going into the differing theories on its cause and specific mechanism in psychopathology.

I worded myself badly, as my definition of what is considered 'real' in this instance was that it was something considered accurate to the recounted experience of the person with DID.
DID is considered not an actual presence of different whole individuals in one body but rather a disruption in the continuance of a persons sense of Identity as well as their ability to link memories together.

>>45158767
I cannot genuinely comment on plurality experienced by other people, as it does not have a scientifically backed diagnostic baseline and I cannot guarantee other people experience it the same.
I also do not mean to take away from the thread's main topic, plurality was not intended to be the conversation, HOWEVER,

In my experience, I do not 'switch' the same way people with DID do, as they experience amnesia, they do not, as far as I understand, interact with eachother internally, rather they individually experience wholeness of self and unwillingly or otherwise switch who is operating the body.

Rather, We hear eachother constantly, we have an incredibly hard time overriding eachother or even getting others to be quiet, rather individuals must willingly choose to be quiet.
we do not individually operate our body as a whole, we mutually comment on things happening and decide what to do, oftentimes impulsively between eachother.

we share memories because we are all constantly experiencing things at all times, the only times this has not been the case, is times of extreme duress where others are absent, and I do not pretend to understand how that works, however we have to share memories in that event. it is exceedingly rare though.
>>
>>45158913
word count but I MUST emphasize that I cannot comment with any authenticity on the experiences of people with DID, I do not have that, and I don't pretend to.
What they go through is genuinely debilitating and makes life incredibly hard to live.

>>45158920
Doesn't mean people have to uncritically accept self diagnoses from literal children
>>
>>45159196
I never said they did

>>45158532
I don’t know about the identity aspect I tend to disassociate a lot but I’m still me just a very bland compliant version of me that exists in routine and coming back into being like awake I guess it’s just kinda a wave of fear and distess
>>
>>45158859
isnt there like a minimum age you have to be to even get diagnosed with it or something
>>
>>45159466
Yes, same with all personality disorders
You have to be 18 for them to even consider diagnosis
>>
even if plurality was fake as long as someone isnt using it to malinger I think its cool and idk why u have to like be mean to people with it
