How does /lgbt/ deal with Trans unemployment and the hiring process? I'm not in a good place with this.

I would consider that transgender people have more mental health issues thag cause this rather than a hiring discrepancy. Also if you just pass its not going to be an issue.

I support it because if trannies are financially unstable then they're easier to prey on

it's a complex issue with multiple causes imo. relatively low educational attainment among trans people seems to be one thing, a lot of the mtfs i know either dropped out, graduated with much less valuable degrees than they were capable of (like one of my friends was on track to be a doctor before transitioning and ended up not continuing with med school and doing an easier but less valuable degree) or didn't have very good grades. dealing with being trans while studying is genuinely hard, i get it. then there's the whole thing where a lot of trans people do in fact find employment but struggle to retain it (big one imo, getting hired is often the easy part) or progress in the workplace, like i know plenty of people who managed to get their foot in the door but either left after just a few months or stayed but in a dead end role. i believe it's partly to do with a lot of us genuinely suffering from executive dysfunction and being more susceptible to burnout etc, and also maybe partly because a lot of us lack confidence in ourselves to actually take opportunities that come our way. i'm going to get (You)d to hell for this, but i actually don't think this is all about passing. i've been visibly trans at work before, my progression was good until i started struggling to hide my executive dysfunction and then everything went downhill. the same thing happened to me in another company a few years later after i started passing way better, only in my late 20s did i manage to work on my issues a bit and break this cycle. i also think that the share of unemployed trans people who are long-term unemployed is disproportionately high and this is much harder to fix, i know some trans people who are 25+ and have never worked and i guess at this point they may never work ever. i don't really know how you fix that sadly, especially when even young cis people struggle to get entry level roles now.

>hm, should i hire this normal, well-adjusted individual with no visible red flags...?
>... or should i hire this severely mentally-ill genderbeast who is chronically insecure, looks repulsive, hates itself, constantly compares itself to cis women, and exudes an aura of pure, unrelenting misery at all times?
yeah i agree sounds rough op good luck tho

Ranting

I hate when being trans effects employment selection. If you're clocked and work for you're fucked or you aren't clocked and work for libs you might not qualify but if they do clock you it's woke or DEI.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone stopped obsessing over our junk?? Can I only work for libs?? Getting lib fatigue ngl. I'm not even a lib myself. Plus they only own certain industries. then if you get into a job regardless of who owns it, you have the fun of dealing with lower management where you play the same game all over again to see how they'll lean in treating you. I fucking hate old people, they run on ideology. I just want to work, stfu and let me work. You're not my Dr and I'm not marrying you don't worry what's in my pants. It doesn't drip acid or bite poison so fuck off.

Rant over
