If the thing Stannis loved most was his daughter, then he would have Melisandre beheaded as soon as she suggested burning Shireen.
>>
>>25282940
Copypastas are the shared cultural heritage of anons, so I'm very cautious about making edits. In this case, I added "washed down" which is a definite asset, and in so doing, I was able to take out the commas there. That way, there's no punctuation after the opening clauses, which is funnier imo. Hopefully this will be accepted into the holy writ.

>>25282957
lol nice, quite a coincidence

>>25282967
It occurred to me that maybe the sequel to Azor Ahai will be a gender flip, with Dany as Azor slaying Jon as Nissa.
>>
>>25282992
>Dany as AA
What else does she have aside from the "waking of the dragons" bit
>>
>>25282967
I just don't see how Stannis and his army could be in a position worse than his current predicament that would cause him to burn Shireen. That 100% sounds like a thing Melisandre and Selyse will do out of desperation once they hear word of Stannis's trouble (possibly from Tycho Nestoris or Justin Massey). The show producers clearly didn't care about Stannis as a character, so I'm hoping they simply misattributed someone on Team Stannis doing it as being "Stannis did it" Idk, maybe I'm coping
>>
>>25283048
I think George always envisioned stannis burning shireen. If anyone would choose saving the world over saving their only child it would be duty obsessed stannis. It’s not like he wants to do it, to him he’s doing what he has to do, and he’s the only leader steeled enough to do something like that for the greater good. I don’t cope about stannis not burning shireen anymore, my cope is that burning shireen will break him and he’ll join the others and be book version of show night king
>>

>It's kinda difficult to get cool Arryns when anytime there's a conflict in Westeros there's either a woman in charge of the Vale or an old geriatric man.
Maybe that's one of those intentional reoccurring themes with some Houses?
>Baratheons are loudmouth cucks
>Greyjoys are retards stuck repeating the mistakes of their past
>Arryns always have weak leaders during times of crisis

>why do people think Jon is getting another romance after Ygritte that isn't just a fling.
He's already dreaming of marrying val lol
Jon and Dany's stories are parallels to each other
Drogo/ygritte were their first loves, then there's daario/val which is more of fling and then they will be each other third and strongest love (because martin loves his rule of three)
>>
>>25282992
I noticed dany and jon are also most likely set up to be the gender bender version of the night king and his corpse wife

D&D clearly had a soft spot for jonsa since season 6 or they just thought cousin incest would be better palatable for normies than aunt/nephew incest but martin probably insisted for jonerys anyway

D&D had key info about the ending straight from martin himself, but they kept giving major character arcs to other characters instead
One of those cases I believe is the "mad targ" plot see ADWD opens with clear foreshadowing to jon warging into ghost, while also establishing that untrained wargs can easily lose themselves and go mad and no one will be there to teach jon on how to control his warg abilities, it’s likely he may even attempt to warg into a dragon
I believe after the long night, jon will be the one who goes mad
I think D&D learned about that and refused to follow it, since they had built Jon much more hero-like than he is meant to be in the books
Dany will be forced to stab jon, maybe in a brief moment of clarity he'll accept it just like nissa nissa fullfing her azor ahair prophecy

>all the southern Great Houses, including the Lannisters, are First Men houses
Now that's just plainly wrong. Arryns were already mentioned, Tyrells were founded by another Andal adventurer, which is why all other Reach houses reach for Highgarden, old Gardener seat. Tullys are technically First Men, but first Tully lord of Riverrun-to-be was vassal of the Andal king and a traitor to the last Mudd King of the Trident. Original house Martell, before the coming of Nymeria, was Andal.
>including the Lannisters, are First Men
Are they?

>Joffrey Lannister, born Joffrey Lydden, was the first King of the Rock of Andal descent.
Ser Joffrey, a knight of House Lydden, was married to the only daughter of King Gerold III Lannister, who was of First Men ancestry. When the king died without male issue, Joffrey was crowned by a council and took the name of House Lannister.

You people are such fools to NOT HAVE LEARNED to intepret Martin's words properly AND / OR to take them at face value, disregarding that he may simply be LYING !!!

FIRST OFF, check again his exact wording:

>"I told [the showrunners some twists like] Stannis's DECISION to burn his daughter."

keyword: "DECISION".

This can go MANY ways in the actual books, such as Stannis DECIDING to do it, but then NOT ACTUALLY *doing* it.
OR
Him DECIDING that *SOMEONE* has to burn, but his orders get MISINTERPRETED or something...
(for example, he orders by raven: "Do whatever it takes to grant us favor!" and then Melisandre / Selyse WRONGLY take that to mean "SHIREEN BURNS !!" )
OR
it's an accident of some sorts due to miscommunication

etc.
etc. you get the idea.

OR

Martin could have simply LIED, like he does ALL THE TIME.

For example, he said in his latest Hollywood Reporter interview that he's gonna KILL SANSA off in Winds.

NOPE.
Not happening.

.
>>
let's get serious for a minute
this year is commercially the perfect time to release winds because:
>the series is turning 30
>we had dunk&egg which turned out to be a sucess
>we have HOTD s3 which yeah kinda sucks but will still make good numbers on hbo
>we have the mad king play which might spoil some important plot points related to R+L
>a got game coming at end of year
I hate to say that because I don't want to sound like one of those retards wishing dead upon old man over a fantasy book but if winds don't come out this year I think it'll be oficially safe to assume it just ain't coming out anytime soon while martin is still alive
you gotta be dumb to believe the book ain't at very least 85% done and ready to come out, if martin wanted to release it next week he probably could, I won't try to guess why he just doesn't do it as it's pointless and I think it's a mix of many reasons (mainly personal reasons)
so we have two sceneries on what might unfold on the next months/years
good ending
>martin releases the book this year
>he finally accepts help from other writers to finish ados while still being the main supervisor and writer
bad endind
>winds don't comes out this year, martin dies and they release the most recent version he had
>they hire a few writers to write ados and have martin's closest friends as supervisors

one way or another I do believe we are getting the books, simply because this series has become such an easy cashbag I'm sure HBO is already thinking of a reboot to the show but for this to work they need the books finished whetever it's by martin or someone else

>“It may be that we shall lose this battle,” the king said grimly. “In Braavos you may hear that I am dead. It may even be true. You shall find my sellswords nonetheless.”
>The knight hesitated. “Your Grace, if you are dead—”
>“—you will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt.”
>Theon I, The Winds of Winter

It just doesn't seem in character to burn Shireen. Stannis would burn himself before his daughter. It seems more reasonable Melisandre and Selyse to burn Shireen without his consent (probably to resurrect Jon Snow) and then cause the implosion of the Baratheon family and Stannis to apostatize from R'hllor, then doing a Rob's Will kind of thing where he legitimizes Edric and/or Mya and declares them his heirs before dying.

o really? Which one is that? :O

Otherwise, I mostly fully agree with your post.
In particular, I'd like to address:

>if winds don't come out this year I think it'll be oficially safe to assume it just ain't coming out anytime soon while martin is still alive
Agreed.
At this stage, it's not even JUST Martin's age -- in fact, THAT aspect is the LESS bearing one.
It's also the "closing in" of the "World Order" -- look at how "on-edge" everyone and eveything is. Even if Winds DOES get finished, how exactly is it gonna get CIRCULATED outside the US, with all the restrictions on trade, travel, etc. .. ??

However, one thing I DISagree with is your "time window" you gave: "Either THIS year or never."

Hm, I'm thinking 2027 is ALSO suitable.
Beyond THAT, however -- yes -- we can and SHOULD forget about it... :/

>I'm sure HBO is already thinking of a reboot to the show
I think the best way to do it would be as an animation, though.
As much as everyone LOVED GoT, I think even the most hardcore fans would find YET ANOTHER live-action a bit banal.
I know I would.
PLUS it would appear like a "disrespect" to the original cast, like saying to them:
"You weren't good enough, so we got new guys to play the roles all over again !"

>>25285144
>My new (old) cope is that the fat man is already writing Dream yet he won't release the books because he knows people's interest on his other shit will wane once everything is out.

I *KINDA* agree, but NOT EXACTLY.
More like:
He's trying to "time" tWoW's announcement to "sync it" up, line it up with SOME OTHER big woiaf-themed project.

KINDA LIKE how Thrones season 1 was (almost) synced up with A Dance with Dragons' release.

Many people theorize that the upcoming STAGE PLAY (about the Tourney at Harrenhall), at which GRRM would PERSONALLY ATTEND, would be precisely the witness to the SURPRISE LIVE ANNOUNCEMENT of Winds' completion.

(there's also comic con, so THAT would work too.)

Let's hope!

Its not. They are just more isolated than many of the other kingdoms while having better trade than say the north. They have a lot more issues with clans than other kingdoms and outside of the main towns they arent very wealthy. The reach is the best but still has issues of heat waves and droughts, as well as incursions from the dornish and ironborn. Overall my rank for average livability is
Reach
Westerlands/stormlands
Dorne
Vale
Riverlands (lower due to constant war)
Iron islands
North

LOL on so many levels
>[The vale] have a lot more issues with clans than other kingdoms and outside of the main towns they arent very wealthy.
First of all, the Mountain Clans are really a NEGLIGIBLE nuisance.
Most that they can ever hope for (pre-ACOK and ASOS when Tyrion "privileged" them) is to maybe catch a small group of travellers unawares... like ONCE A YEAR.

Second, your ranking is just SHIT.
Iron Islands are CLEARLY and BY FAR the absolute WORST shithole on the continent.
Dorne is an arid desert, whose only good parts are the east and southeast, due to connections to outsiders.

REAL RANKING:
Crownlands
Stormlands (this and above, due to adjacency to KL and otherwise good positioning with regards to the rest of world)
Westerlands / Reach
Vale / Riverlands (perhaps the former ever-so-slightly better)
North (in periods of mild winters and long summers, this can be even higher)
Dorne
Iron Islands

>>
>>25288495
There is no way to survive with a single a year, especially for how many clans there are. We get mention of them in world raiding and being uppity. Iron islands are ranked above the north as the north likes to send people off to die so they will actually be able to survive winter. We never heard of anything that bad in the island. Dorne has a lot of shithole parts but its generally safer from wars and disease in a similar way to the vale but more so. I didnt rank crownlands because its really just the best parts of a couple other kingdoms.

In times of peace fisherfolk in skiffs and grain barges pole downstream and merchants on floating ships sail on the rivers.[20] With so much trade on the rivers, villagers will haul their grain and other goods to it to see it sold and carried elsewhere by the merchants.

>>[The vale] have a lot more issues with clans than other kingdoms and outside of the main towns they arent very wealthy.
>First of all, the Mountain Clans are really a NEGLIGIBLE nuisance.

The problem is Gurm made all the kingdoms heavily populated (other than the North) with villages and castles right up to the borders of the neighboring kingdoms which are full of villages and castles, leaving nowhere for primitive clans to exist (the mountains of the Vale being uninhabitable during winter and mostly uninhabitable during summer).

This map from the RPG gaming system Harn World shows how Westeros ought to be laid out, with small areas of farms and civilization surrounded by wilderness that COULD support primitive peoples.

For example if you look to the upper left of the map, (Peran and Equeth) these regions are howling wilderness with scattered tribes of essentially cavemen who occasionally raid civilized areas (Rethem to the south) and are raided in turn by civilized forces, who are slowly expanding into those areas.

Westeros is farms and castles everywhere right up to the borders, which leaves no place for primitive peoples to live; everybody is subject to one kingdom or another, there really isn't even any large woods like Sherwood Forest for Robin Hood type bandit gangs to operate from.

I was his brother, not Ned Stark, but you would never have known it by the way he treated me. I held Storm’s End for him, watching good men starve while Mace Tyrell and Paxter Redwyne feasted within sight of my walls. Did Robert thank me? No. He thanked Stark, for lifting the siege when we were down to rats and radishes. I built a fleet at Robert’s command, took Dragonstone in his name. Did he take my hand and say, Well done, brother, whatever should I do without you? No, he blamed me for letting Willem Darry steal away Viserys and the babe, as if I could have stopped it. I sat on his council for fifteen years, helping Jon Arryn rule his realm while Robert drank and whored, but when Jon died, did my brother name me his Hand? No, he went galloping off to his dear friend Ned Stark, and offered him the honor. And small good it did either of them.”

mate, you're INVENTING STUFF.
The books are not exactly explicit about the Mountain Clans' numbers and danger level, but we DO KNOW SO MUCH:
In the past, there used to be WAY MORE of them, and they were WAY MORE dangerous.
OVER TIME, however, they were GRADUALLY diminished in power by the Lords of the Vale, and, as of A Game of Thrones, are very much near extinction.

>Iron islands are ranked above the north as the north likes to send people off to die so they will actually be able to survive winter.
ALL the kingdoms send people off to the Wall, if that's what you mean.
It's just that the North takes precedence, due to PROXIMITY.
And if it's not "THE WALL" per se, then there's some OTHER location / ritual, to which respective kingdoms would "sacrifice" their undesirables.

>We never heard of anything that bad in the island.
What about the tons of people who DON'T survive the "drowning ritual", i.e. they DON'T "rise harder and stronger", but instead perish? -_-

>Dorne has a lot of shithole parts but its generally safer from wars and disease
Hundreds of thousands dead in the wars against the Targaryens, as they were trying to subjugate Dorne.
Arid shithole deserts all around with fauna not found anywhere else in the WORLD, not just Westeros.

My personal theory about Euron's suspicious acquisition of the full-Armor plate of Valyrian steel is that he somehow made a "deal with the devil" (in Westeros'i terms, of course) of sorts.

We learn from the tWoW sample chapter, through his brother Aeron Damphair's eyes, that,
even though Euron's CLEARLY won unanimous and unquestionable support for his Kingship over the Iron Islands, he's aiming for EVEN HIGHER positions of power, almost akin to GODHOOD.

This, it would appear that the Iron Islands' rule is only a SECONDARY PRIORITY (if a "priority" AT ALL, even) in Euron Greyjoy's eyes,
COMPARED TO his desired acquisition of GODHOOD.

NOW, here's a potential THEORY-CONNECTION that tries to explain what's REALLY going on:

Euron acquired the armor by encountering some magical entity / group / demi-god / cult etc. (in the past) and pledging to "sell" his Kingship of the Iron Islands (ONCE he has acquired it) ... IN EXCHANGE FOR the Valyrian suit.
The "entity", whatever it was, AGREED, giving Euron the suit, and announcing that it would appear at a later point to take over Rule of the Iron Islands, AFTER they have been "transformed" by future-King Euron's politics and Magics, into a form DESIRED BY said Entity.

THUS, we arrive at what might potentially be Euron's UNDOING in future events:
THEON somehow makes his way back to the Iron Islands and informs the worthy conservative faction that doesn't full-on support Euron that he (Euron) is planning to BETRAY THEM ALL, as part of some sacrificial blood pact (or something) with some Otherworldly entity.
... and that he "CHEATED" in some way, or something, in the Kingsmoot.

THUS, Euron is tricked and deposed by the sane part of Iron Islanders, which have not yet been corrupted by Euron's machinations...
...and THEON becomes King of Eye-Eye !! :PP

SOMETHING like that ? :O

The real reason Winds can't be pubilshed is because when Davos arrives at Skaagos he finds that 4-year-old Rickon Stark is a sex addict from over-warging Shaggydog, who's already made a harem of she-wolves and has multiple litters of kin. He doesn't know the difference between cooming as a direwolf so when Davos meets him and Osha, he's mindlessly humping her leg.

Keep in mind all of this was foreshadowed in Bran's chapters when he actually had someone like Jojen to explain to him to warg with caution, but Rickon doesn't have that and is also a younger warg.

There's basically three Varys Blackfyre theories.

Varys = Sara, where Varys is secretly an obese woman and the wife of Illyrio and mother of fAegon.
Varys = some random Blackfyre loyalist
My favorite however is the last one:
Varys = Maenar, the son of Maelys. From the AFFC Draft of Tyrion III:
>"No man is as monstrous as the kinslayer, " said Young Griff.
>"Maelys slew his cousin, and then his only son, a boy of four.
>The Blackfyres owned a clutch of dragon's eggs. Maelys wanted a dragon to carry him to the Iron Throne, but the eggs were old and dead. When Samarro Saan made him a gift of some old Valyrian scrolls, Maelys read that king's blood could wake dragons out of stone, so he gave his son Maenar to the fire. The rite failed, though. The eggs did not hatch."
Varys sanitized the story to young Griff, but the true story is that Varys is Maenar- Maelys castrated his own son and gave his manhood to the fire to hatch the eggs and failed, abandoning the boy after the fact. Sara Blackfyre is Maelys' daughter, and Illyrio is served by eunuchs because Sara collected eunuch slaves in search of her lost brother, Varys/Maenar.

The fact that Varys shaves his head just seems really telling, especially because it parallels Egg. But maybe it is simpler and that Varys is loyal to the Targaryens because he was rescued by Sara and has affection for the way she and Illyrio treated him.
>>
A possibility I like for Varys is that there is no secret motivation behind his actions. He's not a Blackfyre or a Targ or anything like that. He's just purely interested in power and is doing or saying anything that he thinks will work. His whole supporting FAegon is because he thinks that the narrative of the the lost Targ scion coming back to claim his birthright is the one that will be most likely to work and has no emotional investment in him at all.
>>
>>25291102
>He's just purely interested in power and is doing or saying anything that he thinks will work.
We already have Littlefinger, bro.
>>
>>25291102
>>25291123
Varys watched Aerys ruin the kingdom, then watched Robert drive it further off the cliff. I think he genuinely cares about others, unlike Littlefinger, who cares about himself. I think his story works better if he's genuinely a good person in contrast with Littlefinger. They're the two "rags to riches" stories in the KL court plot, and they should be hardened foils to one another.
>>
>>25290701
>Is there any proof Varys is actually a eunuch?

No point lying about and risking someone finding out. He's not a noble so any kids he might have would be commoners, thus he isn't a threat to the nobles he serves in that regard.

tbf, Westeros has been settled for thousands of years, so there's been plenty of time for First Men, then Andals, then Rhoynar to expand into all habitable areas. But you still have the Brotherhood Without Banners, since like any insurgency, they can melt back into the smallfolk.

>>
>>25291288
>Stannis was not undone by the Red Wedding, after all.
Stannis allying with Robb would basically result in the same thing in the story since they never even fought each other. It'd be more like a non-aggression pact than war against each other. Maybe the only difference is more families would support Stannis in subverting the Boltons when he came north.

I don't think the way it's written there implies that he's also soiled, just that she, being soiled, could've been given the boot like he was. The connection is that Lysa had poor value for marriage and that Brynden refused marriage (and so had zero value).
Doesn't mean he isn't gay though, who knows.

>Viserion’s horned head moved back and forth between them and his prey, but after a moment he forgot the sellswords and bent his neck to tear another mouthful from the dead man. A lower leg this time. Quentyn let his whip uncoil. “Viserion,” he called, louder this time. He could do this, he would do this, his father had sent him to the far ends of the earth for this, he would not fail him. “VISERION!” He snapped the whip in the air with a crack that echoed off the blackened walls. The pale head rose. The great gold eyes narrowed. Wisps of smoke spiraled upward from the dragon’s nostrils.
>“Down,” the prince commanded. You must not let him smell your fear. “Down, down, down.” He brought the whip around and laid a lash across the dragon’s face. Viserion hissed. And then a hot wind buffeted him and he heard the sound of leathern wings and the air was full of ash and cinders and a monstrous roar went echoing off the scorched and blackened bricks and he could hear his friends shouting wildly.
>Gerris was calling out his name, over and over, and the big man was bellowing, “Behind you, behind you, behind you!” Quentyn turned and threw his left arm across his face to shield his eyes from the furnace wind. Rhaegal, he reminded himself, the green one is Rhaegal. When he raised his whip, he saw that the lash was burning. His hand as well. All of him, all of him was burning.

Beneath the empty eyes of the skulls, Jaime hauled the last dragonking bodily off the steps, squealing like a pig and smelling like a privy. A single slash across his throat was all it took to end it. So easy, he remembered thinking. A king should die harder than this".

Lady Arryn died later that year and a succession dispute broke out in the Vale with three claimants: In the spring of 135 AC, Lord Rowan sent a thousand men to Gulltown under Corwyn's command to restore the King's Peace and settle the matter of succession. Ser Corwyn ruled that Lady Jeyne's last testament must be upheld and that Ser Joffrey was the rightful heir. He imprisoned Isembard Arryn and his sons, and executed Ser Eldric Arryn, Ser Arnold's son, but Ser Arnold himself evaded him, fleeing to Runestone. When he arrived to winkle him out of his sanctuary, Lord Gunthor Royce rode out to confront him. You're talking about the legend of the creation of a magical steel that took place during the Long Night, 5,000 years ago by the Last Hero. It has nothing to do with the prophecy of TPTWP, since they aren't the same people

It's crazy that some readers don't seem to realize that Martin writes the characters from their POV and therefore how the religious characters think, interpret the world, and end up getting everything mixed up

>whoever turns out to be azor ahair reborn will need their own nissa nissa to end the long night again
We don't know why exactly the Long Night came to end but it sure isn't because "Azor Ahai" killed "Nissa Nissa", if you look at the legend we are just told that it ended when a unamed hero lead a battle against the darkness, not when he killed Nissa Nissa
>How long the darkness endured no man can say, but all agree that it was only when a great warrior—known variously as Hyrkoon the Hero, Azor Ahai, Yin Tar, Neferion, and Eldric Shadowchaser—arose to give courage to the race of men and lead the virtuous into battle with his blazing sword Lightbringer that the darkness was put to rout, and light and love returned once more to the world.
Obviously it's a reference of the Battle for the Dawn, battle opposing the first men of the Night's Watch, lead by the Last Hero, against the Others
And what we are told is that finding the Children of the Forest was the important part
>In the North, they tell of a last hero who sought out the intercession of the children of the forest, his companions abandoning him or dying one by one as they faced ravenous giants, cold servants, and the Others themselves. Alone he finally reached the children, despite the efforts of the white walkers, and all the tales agree this was a turning point. Thanks to the children, the first men of the Night's Watch banded together and were able to fight—and win—the Battle for the Dawn: the last battle that broke the endless winter and sent the Others fleeing to the icy north.
>>
>>25302189
>And what we are told is that finding the Children of the Forest was the important part
What if the cotf just told the last hero the secret to make Dragonsteel and he stabbed his wife right then and there to make lightbringer. And then later when he becomes the night king and the others fuck with him by raising nissa nissa as a wight and taunting him from beyond the wall and making him lose his mind and she’s the corpse queen

Do you think Tyrion will go through with raping Cersei like he promised or was he just all talk? I kind of don't see him going through with it but maybe this is how the prophecy is fulfilled and during the rape Tyrion strangles Cersei to death

>>25302111
>>25302013

Tyrion overhears Daenerys doing something so morally ridiculously absurd when she is in full mad queen mode that he decides to stop her from accomplishing whatever mad goal she sets out do to by stabbing her. It's a Jaime like moment, no one overhears the conversation and how Tyrion saved Westeros from a tyrannical monster but he's viewed as a villain and a grotesque creature for the history books as a result of his actions. Tyrion goes to the wall following his assassination of Daenerys becoming Jorah Mormont's personal ward.

>What if the cotf just told the last hero the secret to make Dragonsteel and he stabbed his wife right then and there to make lightbringer.
Most likely
According to what we’ve been told, the Last Hero was searching for the Singers, he was being hunted by the Others and his sword broke because of the frost, most likely while he was fighting an Other:
>So as cold and death filled the earth, the last hero determined to seek out the children, in the hopes that their ancient magics could win back what the armies of men had lost. He set out into the dead lands with a sword, a horse, a dog, and a dozen companions. For years he searched, until he despaired of ever finding the children of the forest in their secret cities. One by one his friends died, and his horse, and finally even his dog, and his sword froze so hard the blade snapped when he tried to use it.
>All Bran could think of was Old Nan's story of the Others and the last hero, hounded through the white woods by dead men and spiders big as hounds. He was afraid for a moment, until he remembered how that story ended. "The children will help him," he blurted, "the children of the forest!"
So the Last Hero’s sword was broken, and he needed a new one, a special sword.
In the next book, Saladhor Saan explains that “Azor Ahai” needs a special sword to face the “darkness”:
>It was a time when darkness lay heavy on the world. To oppose it, the hero must have a hero's blade, oh, like none that had ever been.
So this is the next chapter in the story of the Last Hero. When we catch up with him in the fourth book, he now has a special sword capable of slaying the Others: the dragonsteel blade.
But I don't think a single sword could have defeated the army of the dead on its own, it's not a weapon of mass destruction like some people think that Lightbringer = dragon. I think the Singers contributed more in terms of magic
>>
>>25287048

>>
>>25303711
George already gave us the origin of all the Elric adjacent names when he told us about Erreg the kingslayer and how Erreg is actually a corruption of a word meaning king. In real life “Eric” means eternal ruler. Eldric shadowchaser is another name for azor ahai because he would be called Eldric like how others use khal or Caesar. Erich, Edric, Erich, Eldric, Harrag, Erreg, Errec etc, are all more examples of this. as for why an Arryn is named Eldric, it’s another hint from George about the several bloodlines of azor ahai. The Arryn’s claim decent from hugor of the hill, having an Eldric in the family tells us hugor was probably another name for the azor ahai character.

but they're not. fun exploration, and his training to be a greenseer is good shit. also Hodor (who I don't think Melisandre has met or even heard about, if she does, that might confirm the theory about the Great Other)
>>
>>25304323
Oh and also the Hyrkoon/Hukko nicknames for azor ahai came from the archaic word for “great white lion” that later became the Dothraki word “Hrakkar”. Azor ahai is said to have killed a lion, so I theorize he had a big pet albino lion that was his version of ghost, and his name was similar to hukko/hyrkoon/hrakkar, and this name became associated with azor ahai in some cultures
>>
I wonder if the souls in Valyrian steel are awake and suffering. Probably. Be a hell of a thing if MelMel could just tear them out of their fire aspected steel hell and consume them for power or knowledge. Maybe that was the original purpose of Valyrian steel - a sorcerer kills you with it, then uses the power of cooking your soul to fuel workings of magic. Then the blade gets a little lighter now the soul is out. The only one 'safe' is the original soul used to create the blade by sacrifice because it gets to sit there among the spells and scream forever.

Aren't there v-steel arakhs and katanas mentioned somewhere? Weapons that in the real world are useless against armour because of their design or construction that kept the silly form factor despite being now indestructible.
>>
I wonder what would happen if you tried quenching a red hot freshly forged sword in a heart tree, would the greenseer soul go Into the steel?

They're still not great and potentially easily damaged. The arakh is mostly a bronze weapon rather than iron among the egyptians too, so that's out. Form factor weirdness. 4.5 Spanish doubloons roughly equaled 1 ounce of gold, so lets say a Westerosi gold dragon coin was the same, thus Anguy was award over 2,200 ounces of gold.

Gold today is selling for over $4,500 an ounce, meaning Anguy got $9.9 MILLION DOLLARS for winning the archery contest at the Hand's Tourney.

Meanwhile, Gregor Clegane won 40,000 gold dragons for winning the joust, or $40 million dollars...
