It’s incredible that Tolkien’s Silmarillion starts off as one of the most beautiful mythos ever put to the written page, and then the second the Elves chase Melkor back to Middle Earth it brings the most boring, unimaginative, worthless dense slog of a hundred pages you’ve every read in your entire fucking life.
Chapters and chapters and chapters detailing the dullest diaspora you’ve ever imagined in your fucking life. Detailing how dozens and dozens of nearly identical elf clans settle in nearly identical places.

More to the point, most of the elves are noldor. I would kill all noldor a hundred times over for what they did to the Teleri

I could beat you all to death for suggesting this shit is better than GRRM.

I've read it a couple of times and can't relate to this at all

I want to enter the headspace of someone who thinks Gurm's simple 300-year history is a better example of worldbuilding than Tolkien's Legendarium. Really, it seems fascinating.

Mythology, legends, and history definitely aren't for everyone, and it was this mismatch of personality and material that led you to voice such an objectively wrong opinion. I don't blame you for it, OP, for there was no way for you to know any better, but I do think you should now simply walk away from it quietly.

Wasn't this written by his midwit son based on the notes he left?

Christopher Tolkien wanted to have everything in simple chronological order and inserted obvious appendix material in the main story. This breaks the flow of the narrative with stuff that is irrelevant even if it's interesting. The authentic J.R.R. Tolkien version would have been much more readable and also would have had lengthy appendices and a frame story explaining the imagined textual history of the included documents for the people who care about that kind of thing.

Christophers obvious autism really butchered what could have been. He also cut out the book of revelations style obvious ending just because the previous chapter ended with something like "thus this story ends" and he concluded he must end the book there.

Soulless as mythos. It is the linguistic landscape where Tolkien's legendarium finds praise, and even that is incomplete.

GRRM can write characters and Tolkien can't
