Surely no one actually believes this book is anything but a work of fiction written by Joseph Smith, right?
What makes it any more unbelievable than all the other holy books?
>>25292215the fact it was ripped off from another book that came out a few years before that smith was aware of through his associate
>>25292081>im so desperate for (you)s im going to summon one of them who will talk to me so he can get his sandwhich card punched for his weekly evangelismpathetic
>>25292081I mean, even if it was wrong(it is) , what about all the people who think he was groomed by a demon or a jew.maybe mr mormon was just very stupid anon , maybe delusional.I have not read it though, maybe its that bad.
>>25292300>what about all the people who think he was groomed by a demon or a jew.i have never heard of Smith being groomed before and I know all the usual anti mormon stuff
>>25292320He only started getting under everyone's skin after he started adding masonic ritualism to his little cult
>>25292215Being more modern. It's easy to mythicize texts written in ancient times when events surrounding it are more obscure than with texts written in modern times when we have more facts around it.
>>25292363The Book of Mormon wasn't written in modern times, just translated. The golden plates were breddy dang old.
>6'2>34 wives>Treasure hunter >Ran for mayor and won>Ruled the city like a king >Tried to run for president >Thought quakers lived on the moonI don't believe in mormonism but the guy who invented it was a chad
>>25292408A man to be admired for sure.
>>25292081had some Mormons read parts of the book with mein my head, I was going "That was already in the New Testament" over and over again
>>25292343He was getting under everyone's skin for being a polygamist in secret marrying other dude's wives and sending them away to foreign countries on missions When it all started unrevealing he conventionally said God told him to
>>25292363The Book of Mormon and Mormonism makes more sense when you remember they never actually believed modern science would get to the point it is now with modern archeology and DNA and all that. He never assumed DNA evidence would exist and be able to confirm the whole "natives are lamanites" thing, nor did they believe archeological evidence would ever be able to prove most of the shit she said existed back then actually did Like with the Book of Abraham which Smith completely pulled out of his ass. He obviously never assumed that the actual scrolls would be found and translated by professionals. If you understand that the people Smith duped into believing actually thought the second coming would happen in their lifetimes then it makes more sense.Smith didn't believe he would be killed, despite the Mormon church loving to say "he was martyred". Smith assumed he'd get out of jail just like all the other times. I think if he lived longer he probably would have proclaimed he was Jesus and made up some way to make his believers buy it. t. raised Mormon
>>25292320Smith claimed he was visited by some kind of treasure guardian, the ghost of a dead man. Smith wasn’t asleep, so according to those who don’t believe ghosts can appear outside of dreams if Smith was visited by someone it wasn’t a ghost. If it wasn’t a ghost it must be something else.
>>25292398The golden plates and seer spectacles are missing though.
>>25293153The Book of Mormon was made in a time of rapid technological & scientific advancements. At the same time Joseph Smith was around, you had Charles Darwin & Alfred Wallace studying evolution, Charles Lyell proposing the earth is hundreds of millions of years old, and key anthropologists like Christian Thomsen, Franz Bopp, Rasmus Rask, Giovanni Belzoni, Boucher de Perthes among so many others discovering lost knowledge about Stone Age and Bronze Age. In fact, that's partially why Joseph Smith came up with Mormonism in the first place. Cause of all the new knowledge in his time about anthropology.Even in Joseph Smith's time scientists were calling him out for the fraud he was. They may have not predicted DNA, but educated people damn well knew that we would have a more rational understanding about our prehistoric past. I'm not sure why normies treat any year before 1900 as some dark superstitious time where everyone was cruel and no one used any logical reasoning. FFS we have literal photographs of Joseph Smith and other founders of Mormonism.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL9ootWH0JQHas anyone here seen this? I decided to sit down and actually read the Book of Mormon starting about 2 days ago and this immediately popped onto my feed lolOnce I'm done with the BoM I'll probably read Ted Callister's case for it and V. James Lovalvo's In Defense (although honestly Lovalvo's text is so short that I started reading it and I'm almost finished), and some stuff against it such as the CES letter and Eric Johnson's Introducing ChristianityI'll probably also at least skim (although hopefully read) the Joseph Smith papyri and his "translation" of the Bible is I have the timeDoes anyone know any good books I should read as an outsider to Mormonism (from any perspective, honestly)? Also, is Hayden Abler's book "How the Book of Mormon was Written" is any good? How did this guy manage to convince so much of his family to join in on this when they had to mortgage Martin Harris' house to even print the book to begin with? I would like to clarify that is is honestly just all out of sheer curiosity for Mormonism as a whole
>>25292398>The golden plates were breddy dang old.The Golden plates never existed.
>>25293153Who would win in a fight? Two Mormon missionaries or two Jehova's Witnesses?
>>25294280Read this. It's probably the best biography of Smith that exists. It's extremely well researched, doesn't come from a Mormon author or apologist, just a neutral historian All of Mormonism is Joseph Smith.
