>let's take this random civilian in our special forces squad and journey outside to one of the most dangerous places from the surface. Why tf didn't they just send artyom back home and go to the library themselves? This is like me going to the seal team 6 command and telling them that I know where bin laden is and they take me with them on the raid
>>25293090That would be like Frodos story ending when he gets to Rivendell
>>25293102As if gandalf couldn't tp himself into mordor and toss the ring
OP, stop being a fag.
>>25293090cuz it fucking rocks
>>25294249But it doesn't make sense
It is explicitly explained in the book retard
>>25295388It's not. He's supposed to deliver hunter's message to Melnik, not go on raids with him
>>25293090>This is like me going to the seal team 6 command and telling them that I know where bin laden is and they take me with them on the raidif you know whats good for you youd forget you ever knew anything about bin laden and go play starcraft instead. you need at least 100 million dollars to not die from knowing
>>25293090You didn't read the book>>>/v/
>>25293090>Why tf didn't they just send artyom back home and go to the library themselves?Something about how Artyom might be able to sense the book of prophecies the Brahmin order was searching for all these years. Artyom heard about it from Burbon who snapped his own neck after being overloaded with esoteric knowledge given to him by the voices of the dead i.e the noise that the pipes in cursed tunnel make. The books get weird like that.
The games could've been so much more kino if they'd just followed the books more closely and didn't lean on videogame tropes so much. I remember being immediately put off by all the silly "makeshift" weapons, shitty AI, unscary mutants, excessive action, abundance of ammo and conversely the lack of real Russian firearms, surface trips happening every other mission, the one-man army main hero who solves everything and never once feels like he's a part of the world, anomalies straight out of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and simplified story that still somehow feels bloated at times and that you can't stray from because that shit is railroaded af. The presentation wasn't all that either with annoying bloom and motion blur making the graphics look worse than they were, cheap sound effects, clunky controls etc but i guess that's just inevitable slavjank features. They grew on me as the time went on but still i can't help but think what they would've been like in the hands of someone who would approach the story and the world more seriously. Something more mature, grounded and atmospheric with less "video-gameisms" to distract from the atmosphere and more focus on the horror and survival. As it is the hero doesn't even need to eat, even after the games going open-world, it's weird.
>>25296917+the lack of so many characters that appear in the book, like Ace, the small commie group that saves artyom from the nazis
>>25296917Forgot to mention that all of that mostly applies to the first game since the following two are doing their own thing. I'd even say Last Light delivered more of what i've expected from the first game, with tighter story, better written characters and expansive world that feels more alive and truer to the text. Although the first game is the most grounded of the bunch and has legitimately some of the most atmospheric and scary moments in vidya https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcNKq0JMGqoBetter stealth too. And it doesn't go overboard with stylization the way LL does. Shame Redux took away so much of it's identity and grittiness.
>>25296917>As it is the hero doesn't even need to eat, even after the games going open-world, it's weird.Artyom! Remember to wipe your ass with [ScrollDown]!
>>25296921Yeah, the story structure goes away from Artyom exploring the world of metro/meeting new people very quickly. The game has like two or three templates for the inhabited stations and everything between ̶R̶i̶g̶a̶ Market and Polis feels like a wasteland or active battle zone. I wish we got what was promised in 2006 i.e open-world metro where you can go about your mission in various ways and every station is unique with it's inhabitants having different stories that you can participate in. The tunnels should've been vast and unknowable, with creatures lurking in the dark instead of zerg rushing you. The surface should've been way more dangerous and mysterious as well.
>>25296952Better quality https://youtu.be/ZwCNpw3qwLY?t=7And just for fun, russian version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GekH6cdgKdY
>>25296917It would've been neat if you had to warm yourself by the fire from time to time in winter levels. The first game could've used something like that since other than changing filters there's not much to do on the surface.
Anyone read others books in Metro 2033 universe? I liked the ones about St. Petersburg, Minsk and the anarchist stations in Moscow.
