How fucked is Cormac McCarthy's legacy now the he's been colonized by young men who are "just getting into reading" and whose main attraction to Blood Meridian is the "epic violence"?

He's always been like this though.

this is what happens when gamers decide to start reading. they turn this act that hardly anyone does anymore into some faggot pissing match that no one but them and other troons online give a fuck about. kys retards.

Nah only in the last 5 - 6 years

Its the fate of any movie or book with cool tough guys in it to be misread by dumb teenagers, regardless of how much the work itself criticizes that life. people will glorify it if the tough guys are cool enough. In movies its Goodfellas, The Godfather, American Psycho, Taxi Driver, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, etc. etc. etc. In books anything by Hemingway, McCarthy, Jünger, even the Illiad itself

The moderator of /r/cormacmccarthy does not realize the damage his done by refusing to eject those kids from the subreddit

if those normie larpers want to read some really tough shit, i’d recommend one day in the life of ivan denisovich by solzhenitsyn. it’s one of the most brutal and realistic books ever written.

You are as big of a faggot as the faggots being memed in your image. Kys
>>

Not fucked as long as you don't care. Even if you do care, it's only a mild inconvenience to say "I like it despite the fanbase being cringe" each time you discuss a Cormac McCarthy book. You'd look like a self conscious faggot but you've already chosen that fate.

>one day in the life of ivan denisovich
shouldn't you be cleaning your room or washing your penis or something, bucko
>>25299889
similar situation to death grips -- both blood meridian and dg undeniably classic, but edgelords and tourists robbed them of their potency

Back to /mu/ little zoom zoom

not sure if you've heard but dg is unc music now. I know, I know, feels like Exmilitary came out yesterday doesn't it

BOTNS also suffers from this. The good news is that Wolfe's other works are untouched by this reputation, and you should read those.
>>
>>25300029
that's neat... i don't know if ive seen this book mentioned before, but i just added it to my reading list earlier today

Blame society for feminizing the shit out of everything. Would be men are desperate for something

Cormac McCarthy? You mean that guy from Opera?
>>
>>25300135
I unironically find this one of the most surreal aspects of life.

I care more about this than I do any crusty work coming out of academia. Looks great. I think Corncob's legacy is fine. Eventually at least a few of these guys will read The Passenger and Stella Maris. And we're hopefully going to have a ballsy, energetic, imperfect film to enjoy and meme about. Just think about that and try not to be so serious.
>>
>young people need to read more
>*young people read more*
>NOOO NOT LIKE THAT
>>
>>25300319
The obsession with the movie is also perplexing. If the book was just an appetizer for the real thing. Ridiculous.
>>
>>25300382
This is just your typical faggot hipster posturing.
>yeah, cormac mccarthy was good, until he went mainstream
>I liked blood meridian before it was popular
>fans these days just don't get it

what can be said? Film is a total art, the modern Gesamtkunstwerk, to cop an idea from Wagner

same as it ever was

You didn't see this until the film was announced. Then the memes, the articles and the discussions were planted.

Just gorilla marketing. You're now gonna notice the same thing next time.

1996 was thirty years ago and 1966 was thirty years prior to that, and 1936 thirty years prior to that. The time between ‘66 and ‘96 seems longer than the other two somehow, and I think it’s because it contains the entirety of my childhood.
