This shit sucked. My wife says I need to read the whole trilogy but holy fuck this sucked
>>
What the fuck is with the amount of people on 4chan nowadays who incidentally mention having a wife or even kids? I never used to see this a decade ago, how did all these normalfags find our site?
>>
>>25300340
The children who posted on this site ten years ago grew up and got married.
>>
>>25300340
>how did all these normalfags find our site?
I've been here since 2004 and I'm old enough to be your father you little retard
>>
>>25300340
I only do it for comedic effect to present an opinion as hers not mine and to ragebait incels
>>
>>25300335
meh, I watched the tv show I’m not going to read it. It’s very derivative.

The idea that a Chinaman can actually write literature is aspirational and appealing to a good amount of people. Sadly it's a bit of a pipe dream and doesn't actually pan out in reality, but that doesn't stop people from willfully living in a fantasy that appeals to them.
>>
>>25300335
Why would you ever listen to a woman/wife? Retard
>>
>>25300367
She's hot huge tits and she's smart

>>25300362
She's pretty racist. I don't think that's why she liked it

I just want someone to tell me the sequel is worth it
>>
>>25300335
Yeah I tried reading it but it's really poorly written on a sentence to sentence basis. I just can't read anything modern unless it's literature in translation. English literature and any fiction for normies reads like it's written for children and I just can't even.
>>
>>25300418
>it's really poorly written on a sentence to sentence basis.

>English literature reads like it's written for children
Anon... This is translated...
>>
>>25301157
Lol, see what I mean about being written for children? I said I can't read MODERN genre fiction or MODERN English literature. I don't think there was a way to use a comma to show the modern applies to English literature as well though
>>
>>25300335
I have heard that unfortunately the second book is the one that is good. But I also thought the first book was really mid at best. I really don't enjoy basic over-explained sci-fi, but I was promised this was different. I enjoyed the parts about Chinese history the most actually, and those seemed those most elegantly written. I do wonder if it is a translation issue, because some of the writing seemed on par with Andy Weir. Like a lot of sci-fi, it seems more interested in its cool conceits than being literature and it comes across in its, again, over-explained tell don't show style.
>>
Haven't read it but a lot of people says the second book slaps

Also your wife might be trying to indoctrinate you to the CCP

I read “Wandering Earth” from this same author and it was alright. I don’t see the whole cult of personality around him as anything substantial though.

Fuck you all of you, if you went to a hard science book without the intent of rating the book primarely on its science concepts then fucking kill yourself
What are you prosefag or themefags? Anyways kys
>>
>>25300335
Your wife fucks black men behind your back.
>>
Anon, you would say that it is a better idea to watch the TV series?
>>
The first book was fine, the Trisolarans are a cool concept but I had to put down the second book because of how retarded it was, specifically the main character.

>John Dark Forest is the smartest, coolest guy ever who doesn’t care about the fate of the world but he’s created the perfect waifu in his head who he goes on about for chapters. Oh wait, the government actually has the exact perfect waifu ready for him except he has to help the earth in order have her. John Dark Forest then decides to help by using mutually assured destruction if they (aliens or earth) ever threaten to take his waifu again

It was actually bafflingly how bad it was considering everyone said 2 was better than 1. It read like the chink author never spoke to a woman before. I’ve heard 3 is completely off the rails too.
>>
>>25302106
If you’re talking about the Netflix show, no. It’s really bad Netflix slop. The first book is fine sci fi and a fun read just do that. Theres a Chinese show that is supposedly much closer to the text but I haven’t seen it.
>>
>>25302121
I once lost a lot of respect for a friend when he couldn't stop praising this book and saying things like it was the best book to come out in years. I read the whole trilogy and was extremely underwhelmed, it made me question everything I thought I knew about this guy if this kind of middling normie slop got him that fired up
>>
>>25302183
Yeah, Book 1 was a fine page turner sci fi mystery/ thriller but Book 2 read like a really bad anime or manga. It reminded me that most people have really awful taste and think shit like Attack on Titan is the peak of storytelling
>>
>>25300340
Bro people who were 24 then are 34 now
>>
>>25302342
Attack on Titan is a masterpiece and better than most of the books that get discussed in here.
>>
>>25302439
>masterpiece

It can’t be a masterpiece since it’s come out the author changed the ending to appease Erenfags. Maybe if he stuck to his guns of making Eren go full chud then it could be discussed
>>
>>25302141
the netflix is fine chill the fuck out

I started browsing /b/ in 2009 when I was twelve years old. I just grew up. So did a lot of us.
I've spent the majority of life on this site now but I do in fact have a wife, many friends, a well-paying job, etc.
I'd put money on /lit/ harboring a higher proportion of outwardly normal people compared to most boards given how the site has devolved as the internet changes. This is the only board I've considered worthy of posting on for at least eight years or so.
>>
>>25300340
When I first discovered this website I was 16 and I thought I was going to make it cause /biz/ said so
>>
>>25300335
I heard it's disclosure which is why US and Chinese leadership have endorsed it publically.

I liked the trilogy overall but it gets worse. If you’re not into it now it doesn’t improve and you might as well skip it imo. Tell your wife to meet me at the regular spot and to wear the thing. She’ll know.

This book is blatantly anti CCP
>>
>>25300335
That is the best and most grounded book of the series.

13 in 2006. 33 with a family in 2026. You're here forever. Also reading as a hobby is more compatible with having kids than playing games so people with families are more likely to post on /lit/.

4chan users being loser incels is also largely an illusion. The incel losers just have way more free time and thus their posts dominate the website. I'm pretty sure if you just tallied up all 4chan users that make a post at least once a month you would find more well adjusted people than not.

I'm posting here because it's still somehow the best place on the internet. 4chan is worse now but the rest of the internet has been getting worse at a far faster pace.

First book is a 5/10, second book is a 7/10 (but has some 9/10 and 5/10 moments) . Third book is a 9/10 (but has some 10/10 and 7/10 moments).

The books feel unbalanced because sometimes you're reading it and it feels derivative and like some crappy fanfiction. And then it hits you with the best sci-fi you've ever read in your life in the next chapter, only to feel generic again after that.

I'm the type of person that judges a work by the best moments it has so the trilogy is amazing to me. Some people prefer consistency so they hate the books or prefer the first one.

I terms of feeling the first one feels like Andy Weir, Michael Crichton or Blake Crouch.

The second book feels like Alastair Reynolds, Asimov or Iain M Banks

The third book feels like Peter Watts

Also the books were largely written as a critique on the CCP while being subject to censorship. It expects you to read between the lines to see what it's really saying and how it applies to the CCP especially in the 2nd and 3rd books because the first book came out when censorship was the lowest it ever was but the 2nd and 3rd book came out during greater oppression and censorship so it had to be even more subtle and use euphemisms and metaphors. So a lot of "weird parts" just exist to facilitate this. Makes for a good re-read once you know more about Chinese history as you can see the exact policies and politicians criticized if you read between the lines.
