Why are women so obsessed with Harry Potter?
>>
>>25301449
Harry Potter fangirls are just the woman version of Marvel fanboys. Pathetic creatures that failed to evolve passed age 16.

The whole hogwarts house classification thing fulfills their mbti, sun sign obsession without making it seem weird in the public eye.
>>
>>25301449
Romance subplots help, but that's not enough to explain the whole thing.
I think it's the total lack of machismo and because of the way Rowling describes people. There's a gossipy appeal to it but the reader is not supposed to think of it as such. It's always made clear that you're on the good side and the baddies are on the bad side.
>>

School houses are a thing though. If you didn’t have them you’re probably not educated

Yeah I know they exists, but school houses IRL usually assigns students at random.
Houses in Hogwarts have students fit a certain archetype a la MBTI category or zodiac sign.
>>
It shows a positive depiction of school and academia that we don't get anywhere else. Everyone seems to hate school but I loved it as a kid. It was a pure escape. A place I could go where all I had to do was follow directions and where people my age were forced to be around me and not be outright hostile. It was wonderful. That's why I liked Harry Potter too.
In my experience people who hate Harry Potter also hated school.
At home I would just stare at a wall in a depressive fugue but when I was at school things felt so much more positive and active. Ever since I graduated I lost all my friends and have no more direction. I will inevitably end myself but my best memories will always be school and Harry Potter
>>
Honestly? because it was shoved down there throats. How many of these bitches have read the world of earthsea of Ursula K Le Guin? yeah exactly. Harry Potter was pushed on society from day fucking one.
>>
>>25303162
Earthsea was well written, but more autistic and serious and philosophical than Harry Potter. It also didn't give kids the delusion they were going to receive a letter from Hogwards themselves. That was a huge part of the appeal.
>>
>>25301449
Same reason guys like superhero shit and fantasy.
Fun to self-insert in a pre-defined setting with easily defined powers/potential.
The school setting of Harry Potter allows for more catty romantic drama and angst is already in the books, which is why it had such a large female fanbase.
Fantasy is the same but it's more about the grand adventure. Pretty much fifty years of fantasy literature was spent almost entirely doing "Lord of the Rings but-", and if you look to Japan, the entire naroukei boom was basically "What if I was in Zero no Tsukaima", another fantasy work (though this one being about if you were a loli girl's slave).

>>
They are the Taylor Swift of children's literature in that they suit middle class sensibilities very well. They are not the type of fantasy weird nerd kids read. Fathers are happy to take their daughters to a Swift concert and harry Potter world.
>>
>>25301449
Rowling had the formula down well. I miss reading about Harry escaping the dursleys every year and the hijinks of Ron and Hermione. It's a shame that the "sequels" are so terrible. Nothing really fills the HP shaped hole unlike how GoT fills the LOTR hole and let's not forget the hobbit. Even Star Wars fans have a plethora of equally enjoyable sci Fi.
>>
What I always hated about HP is that it stops making sense the instant you start thinking about it. Like for example, magic literally has no rules. The wizards are basically fucking gods and there's no reasonable way to actually measure who is a 'better' wizard.
>>
>>25304204
Lithography originated as a way to mass produce images, he'd probably think it was awesome.
>>
>>25304228
Do they ever address why the wizards didn't stop Hitler?
>>
>>25304252
Nope, not that I remember at least.
>>
>>25304228
Eh, some learn spells more easily and one spell can have different power levels. A patronus spell is very limp-dicked when you start out. Eventually you can do spells without saying them and even without a wand if I remember correctly.
Of course Harry Potter is full of plotholes, but that's a different matter.
>>
>>25304252
Hitler was trying to prevent the emergence of trans culture
>>
>>25301452
>women not past 16
>>
>>25301449
It allows for a reality where physical ability is nearly irrelevant. All of the powers of witches and wizards are based on memory, and to quickly access said memories, two things women are really good at.
>>
>>25304335
>The wizards were on Hitler's side
If that were the case, Hitler would've won.
>>
>>25304405
Muggles went on a proper killing sprees with tanks, guns and bombs. Wizards are total pussies and a minority.
>>
>>25304425
Wizards can trivially mind control anyone, teleport, manipulate time and turn any object into any other.
>>
>>25301449
Most women don’t like Harry Potter. Most women don’t read. Much like most men watch sports and stream trash most women watch real housewives shit and stream trash.
>>
>>25303161
Decent theory and I fit it. I loathed almost every hour of every day of school and also could never enjoy much Harry Potter material other than the Goblet of Fire film. I'm going to start asking people about this and see if your theory fits them as well. This franchise has the largest gap between popularity and my perceived quality of almost anything, and I wonder if it's something like this.
>>
>>25301449
>magical fantasy land where a four-year degree at a prestigious boarding school gets you qualified for a career
Write material like this but throw in vampires or werewolves or whatever. Set it in 2004 with some pay phone references and a have a happy optimistic tone. People love escapism
>>
>>25303752
>literally tom brown with magic and shit
That's too much of a stretch, it's quiet literally just picrel. Potter has something extra to it that makes it more "franchise-friendly" though, and make of that what you will.
>>
>>25304252
It's implied the books are set in an alternate timeline where Hitler didn't exist and WW2 was about Grindelwald.
In Philosopher's Stone, Grindelwald is just a throwaway meme character described as a 'dark wizard' who was defeated in 1945, obviously being a jokey reference to Hitler.
In Deathly Hollows he's randomly brought back to play a major role in the story, in which he's described as having conquered continental Europe and plastered his symbol everywhere, but never invaded Britain.
Of course that raises the question of what muggles in the HP-verse thought WW2 was about, but given how stupid muggles seem to be, the implication is they have legitimately no idea.
Also JKR retconned all of this in her shitty 'Fantastic Beasts' movies which portray Grindelwald as trying to save humanity from the Holocaust or something

Why didn't the "wizards" just cast themselves out of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

a-at least the books were good though

"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

>I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times.
I once tested this with quicksearch and got no/very few results. I don't remember if it was the same book Harold Bloom referred to or that I picked one at random.

You should really either try to get into academia or become a janitor or gardener or something like that where you can work at schools or universities. I’d suggest the military but it’s not a good time for that right now if you’re an American
