how the mighty have fallen
>>25302575What a dud. I completely forgot that book existed.
>>25302575I didn't even know he published a new book, what the fuck?
One more book. Full of anime references. It will happen.
>>25302637His godzilla book?
I wouldn't call it a bad book but I would call it bad Pynchon. It felt like he was building up to this interesting plot moving in many different directions but then I realized I was almost finished and there wasn't enough time to resolve any of it. It all just ends. In his better works the zany cast of characters get introduced in funny ways then reweave themselves back in moving ones, but it felt like every chapter of Shadow Ticket had some new dude or femme fatale sidepiece that said one line, had one joke about their origin, and disappeared forever. By the end I seem to remember like four or five different plucky newsboy sidekick types that were completely interchangeable as if he forgot that the previous ones were already around.I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's eventually revealed that he died or his health declined seriously while he was writing and his estate or editor just wrapped up what he had so far.
It was good until Budapest.

>>25302722>I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's eventually revealed that he died or his health declined seriously while he was writing and his estate or editor just wrapped up what he had so farBut Pinecone has been on a bad streak since IV, and Bleeding Edge was even worse than this one.
Reddit hated this book, so I think it’s rather decent
>>25302575It wasnt a great book, but it was fun. I have a soft spot for pulpish mysteries.
>>25302722Tommy just has different standards for his lighter books (49, Vineland, Shadow Ticket) and his Big Bad Boys (V, GR, MD, AtD).
Wait 7 years and everyone here will say it's actually a masterpiece
>>25302994>Bleeding Edge was even worse than this one.I don't think so. Bleeding Edge was somewhat engaging at times. Shadow Ticket is like wet cardboard under the Pynchon name.
>>25303139Well the thing about 49 is he admitted he only wrote it for money and even said he regretted writing it. Despite that, it's the best of his 'lighter books' imho
This guy was born in 1937.
>>25303349So was I. What's the big whoop?
>>25302575>judging a book before its even been released
>>25303349uncmaxxing
>>25302575Remember when his son was on this board like the night before shadow ticket was released? Good times
good riddance
>>25303906Really? Didn't he give an interview about how much he loves anime? That's all I know about him. How old is he?
>>25304429Sounds like a bunch of twaddle to me
>>25302637Bleeding edge was already full of anime references
>>25302994Inherent vice and bleeding edge are great. Shadow ticket was assjuice though. Just completely unfocused. >>25303319I personally like IV better but there were some magical moments in lot 49
>>25304529Bleeding Edge was far from great, you must be a drug user.
>>25304671Bleeding Edge was great, you must be a faggot.
>>25304525I'm looking for true zoomer anime references. We need Monokuma to show up in Pynchon. It would just make sense.
>>25304686I don't think I've ever seen anyone say Bleeding Edge was great, generally considered his worst I thought.
>>25305479Shadow ticket is his worst. But I also don’t give a fuck about “consensus” because I’m not a drooling retard.
>>25305571Easy, buddy. We're all friends here.
>>25304429>Didn't he give an interview
>>25305571>because I’m not a drooling retard. If you thought Bleeding Edge was "great," you very well might be.
