Why do people still act as if Don Quixote is the greatest novel of all time? Part 2 does some interesting stuff within the context of the novel and it has its moments, but I'm just curious about the reason. I just saw someone saying it was way better than Twin Peaks The Return yesterday.

There's not a single later novelist that can rival the creation of the characters Quixote and Sancho. They are eternal in the same way Odysseus, Hamlet, Faust, etc. are eternal. The development of realism, for all its virtues, has significantly hampered the creation of poetic characters in the novel.

Part 2 is horrible.
Part 1 is funny; it's an anthropological study on what people thought was hysterical at the time.
Like, remember when Alonso was hit in the face by a stone after attacking the sheep in a dramatic charge and broke one of his teeth, making him gain the nickname "knight of the sad figure"?
This must have been peak humour in the 16th century...

Part 2 is a thousand times better you incurable cretin.

What next, OP, are you going to tell us that Dostoevsky is humdrum?
>>
>>25303248
No work of Dostoevsky is overpraised to the same extent as Don Quixote.
>>

Ok then. Provide some analysis. What is it about the novel you feel is lacking? What have most people missed? And what do you think led to it being overpraised in the first place?

Television is for niggers.

I read it this year. It's amazing.

I read Grossman but I can't comment on other translations and I can't read books in Spanish. You hear people saying Grossman is the "accessible" version which might make it sound pedestrian, but the prose is quite nice and doesn't fail to reach the elevated flights of fancy the book is largely made of

>likes Don Quixote
>posts the superior final fantasy VIII character
very nice

Best is Thomas Lathrop, followed by Grossman.

You wouldn't say that if you had read Smollett's.
