There's a real gap in the market for manga adapted into novels. So they are suitable for people over the age of 9. I'd love to read the story of Berserk but i'm not reading a fucking comic book.

Pictures with sporadic dialogue just don't work as a means of storytelling, unless you're telling the story of a very hungry catterpillar. I've noticed this weird mindset on 4chan especially, of being hyper focused in one medium to the exclusion of others, like /lit/ only cares about books. But what I do, and what I expected most people to do, is to be art explorers, going between different art forms to see their strengths, weaknesses and uniqueness, creating an intricate tapestry of experiences.
