I've never read the Sherlock Holmes books/stories before
I looked up what is considered his best stuff
1. The Hound of the Baskervilles
2. The Speckled Band

The Speckled Band is dumb, the payoff is dumb, it's full of plot holes, and the writing is 90% (dense, bad) dialog

Also, read Study in Scarlet and then progress from there. Then, you can treat it as a saga and not one-shots.
