I don't have much space, but I use one side of my couch for reading and playing online poker, while I use the other side for mindless activities. The brain automatically gets into the right mental mode depending on the environment. If you read in the dedicated reading space, your brain will be prepared for that. if you suddenly want to read in your bed, your brain will be prepared for sleep or for sex (if you know what that is). Also drink coffee and raise you metabolism.

Read when you're not tired
I feel you OPI sit at a desk for work so the last thing I want to do is sit at a desk at home but I can't do much lying down without falling asleep and ruining my sleep schedule...
