>that chapter 6God, I love Halo.
>>25306738It’s kino, brother. One of the writers they commissioned, who also worked on the republic commando books, was a war correspondent. I forget her name, but her halo books are good as well
>>25306743They get a lot of good writers for these.
>>25306815Military fiction in a nutshellthat's why it's so good
>>25306815>>25306860Sorry if this isn't about minotaur dicks.
The chapter pretty much confirms this new artificial life are going to be future enemies in the games/books. Cortana didn't even try to undo any of it.
I actually am listening to the audiobook. I highly recommend it because of all the different people they got to narrate these.I think it was chapter 10, the one with the female Grunt commander, that shit was very fun to listen to.
>>25306738>WOW my ZogBot propaganda pamphlet is so goodPiss of Halo caused the shittyness of 7th gen games.
>>25307521That's actually one of the things that make me love Halo. You can tell it's pure american propaganda.Sorry if that makes you mad, towel head. lmao

KINOOOOOOCan't wait to get this book.
>>25307521Quick question, you made this thread right?
>>25306738This story was written in 2023. They haven't done much with it. But they didn't release much game content past Infinite anyway. ""And so, I will lay the foundation for a new strategy, one I had always hoped might gain Her full favor. Our kind will have to recalculate our timetables, but this practice is nothing new. Our charge has not changed. The FIREWALL agendum must be set in motion. It will burn hot. It will consume. And when their ephemeral vessels are gone, we shall indeed take that which remains and remake it in our own image."You know, they probably don't want to steer this franchise in a direction too similar to Mass Effect, that's why the Created didn't take too much space in the story and they introduced another ancient alien species, related to the Forerunner.
>>25307773The Flood is a great book but spends too much time narrating events from the first game. It kinda pointless if you've already played it. But it's also way better than the game at telling the same story, of course.
God, I love Halo. I don't respect animals who dare to disrespect this franchise.
>>25307884It was the last great cultural product of white America
>>25306738Cole protocol is kino. Attestament that Halos IP should be public commons when Microsoft and their gay and retarded studio turn out slop when some of their books stories are vastly superior to anything they've made. Same problem with Disney and Star Wars.

>>25308766lol
So far, I'm having a great time with these stories. I didn't think they were this good.
Ilsa Zane is pretty much the spartan version of Cortana. I loved this character.
>>25306738With audiobookbay gone where im i suppose torrent this shit?
>aaaah!!! The foam!! It does nothing!!!
>>25308771>best Halo book ever>headcanonNo, I don't think so.
>>25307711>Recommend me a three-sided rectangle
>>25306738>>25306743I mean... I don't understand how people can still interact with this franchise and not feel pain, anguish and hatred. Watching Halo across time has been like watching a dear friend get raped over and over again... relentlessly... mercilessly... defiled in the most sickening and grotesque ways... How do you look at the franchise in its current state and not seethe..? Genuinely. Did you ever love Halo...did you ever care?
>>25311589Ignore everything after Reach.Simple as.
I unironically think Halo could have been the Star Wars of the 21st century if it had been handled with better care.
>>25311626Reach (the game) altered the timeline compared to the book. Everything after the game is non canon anyways
>>25311589I started reading Halo in 2023. And have been having fun and believe It's a very rich fictional world.
>ignore everything after ReachGood think I never followed that advice and kept on just enjoying and loving these books.Pic very much related.
>>25311694Halo actually has wars, though. Unlike Star Wars
>>25311694Halo takes more ideas from Xeelee and Hyperion than it ever took from Star Wars.
I wish they would stop talking about Zeta Halo so damn much though.
>>25311694>handled with carevideo games are designed to be manipulative and addictive, fat chance lmao
Halo is probably the most white american franchise ever created. Whether that's a good or bad thing I'm not sure, but I can't help cringe when I replay the games and there's so much MARINES OORAH type stuff. The amount of spiky haired dorks in 2007 who probably thought this was so cool and immediately signed up to the military to go die for Israel is hilarious
The Fall of Reach was so fucking good
>>25306738I liked the old covers better. I’m not sure why the crummy cgi aesthetic of the old covers vibes better with me than these painted illustrations.
>>25306815Yes.
I just went through Iratus' chapter. What a fun character.
>>25314422Same. So much soul in those.

>chapter 24"Saffina awoke. She tried to open her eyes but she had no eyes to see, no arms to move, no legs to kick, no mouth to scream. She was pure consciousness, suspended in some dark, limbo stare"Well, that was grim.
>>25316670>stare*state.
I am tired of pretending that the Ace of Spades aren't the best books in this franchise.
Do we know the reason why Cortana decided to destroy Doisac? Was it because she was sucessefully rage baited into doing it?
>>25316670Pardon, but I've just noticed the image that you've chosen to illustrate your sensory deprivation concept. It is clear to me that this simple cartoon image of yours is based upon a more elaborate version, due to one "S Zenith Lee". Although this particular image is worksafe, S Zenith Lee also trafficks in amputee porn, extreme BDSM and the like. The notion of being pure consciousness (gradual loss of the use of body parts) is also explored during one episode in the middle of the video game Earthbound. And the hell of it is indicated by the Metallica music video "One". With regard to amputee porn, there is one particular image that I enjoy which depicts a girl (who has clearly been blinded, her eyes are dulled) getting a syringe to her tongue from one fellow as another is about to be penetrated. I like to imagine that the syringe is robbing her of her taste and (possibly) smell, so that in the tableaux, all she has left is her sense of touch, which she must use. Hope that this post helps to expand on the literary notion of helplessness!
>>25314359So are fiction novels in a series so whatever.Halo games were encapsulated in a story. There's no reason Halo couldn't have expanded into a universe like Star Wars did. Except that both were handled incompetently by successors who didn't understand what they had.

It's a fun book. But the stories are too short to leave a mark.
The terminals in the Marathon games have better writing than any Halo novel. That being said, Fall of Reach, Contact Harvest and Ghosts of Onyx are pretty kino. I hate the 343 retcons so I never read anything released after Contact Harvest
>>25322690If you never read the ones that came after Harvest, why are you leaving that opinion here? Why hate on something you have never read ?
>>25316086While true, it is even more honorable to admit to the errors of one's past convictions and pursue conversion upon the beautiful conviction.

GOD I FUCKING LOVELOOOOOOOOOOOVEHALOno other franchise even comes close to me.God of War? I wish, but it has no novels.Sex? I hate sex, top 10 things to avoid.Gears of War? Close but it's not about space.Mass Effect? Died to DEI. Many such cases.Sex 2? Close, but no.I don't know what else there is. But if it exists, it's still not as good as Halo.
>>25307711The Fifth Head of Cerberus A Canticle For Liebowitz (not amazing but good, if you're a certain kind of person) The Metamorphosis Of Prime Intellect (there is some disgusting edgelord shit at the start, although it has a purpose in establishing the overall message. I only give it a 6/10 for that and some other issues but I'd give Starship Troopers a 7.5/10 for context)
>>25328742Nobody I knew played it growing up in the UK
>>25329066>the UKI would assume as much. Considering the bad guys from Halo are basically a representation of Islam.
>>25322690Im getting into the marathon lore because of its recent release and it does seem to be very thought out scifi. I wish there was more sexy Cortina in something.
>>25329066Weren't the bongs all about Counterstrike in the 00s?
Now the long wait for this one begins.
>>25322690You missed out, the Forerunner Trilogy is even better then Contact Harvest and Ghosts of Onyx. It's full of radical changes to the fundamental truths of the Halo universe though so you may have hated what it did if you dislike 343i retcons.
>>25329069Not really, they represent religious fundamentalism in general, if anything they are more Catholicism coded then anything considering the terminology the series uses>b-but the DervishOne name that they didn't even end up going with, wheras all the names the franchise does use for Covenant stuff are terms from Christianity and the Catholic Church
>>25331966I need to give that trilogy a new try again. I am VERY fine tuned to pay attention to the forerunner now. LolI watched so many lore videos, read the Ace of Spades trilogy and Epitaph. Epitaph to me was one of the best books I've read in my life.
>>25306738wuzz it about?
I've read recently Fall of Reach, Flood and First Strike.I do not like these books nearly as much as the later one. They are missing key character development. Fall of Reach to a lesser extent than the other two, but still. It's almost as if they're narrating a videogame. They spend so much time talking about no name covenants and flood units, it bores me.
>>25334059Most people agree The Flood is kinda bad, but people tend to like Fall of Reach. Personally my tier list of the Halo novels I have read would be something like this:>Amazing: Silentium, Cryptum, Contact Harvest>Great: Evolutions, Ghosts of Onyx, Last Light, Fall of Reach, Broken Circle, Primordium>Good: First Strike, Hunters in the Dark>Meh: Glasslands, The Flood, Thursday War, Cole Protocol>Bad: Mortal Dictata
>>25334220Please read the Ace of Spades trilogy and Epitaph if you loved the original Forerunner trilogy. The characters in it are also pretty fun, the books feel like a proper adventure.
>>25334252Oh, that wasn't the image I was going to use. Could be worse for a misclic, jesus.I love the third one, but Renegades, I think, it's where the characters have the best interactions.I think Gek Lar is one of the best villains this series had solely because of this book. The fucking auction house scene was so fun. It's one of those times the alien characters are allowed to act outside of non war scenarios.
>>25333945A collection of 34 stories about the Halo universe. The vast majority was already avaliable online (just checked, 28 old, 10 are new). Some are very good, some are not as good.
>>25334368It basically depends on what you want to read.Like for example, I don't care much about stories from the Coenant era anymore. Not all bore me, like there's one where you see a Sangheili who's race was never even recruited by the Covenant. I found that interesting.Other stories, nah.
>>25334373Oh shit wait no, Rendezvous With Ramen was very peculiar too and it's from that era.Did you know there were covenant converts on Earth? Some even converted to christianity?
>>25306738>>25306743I just got an e-reader and didn't even think about adding these, thanks anons
>>25334380Mind you, these stories are also for the fans of the series. You need some modicum of knowledge to understand what it's being talked about. For this reason, I don't find this a very easy to get into franchise. When I attempted to read Greg Bear's trilogy for the first time, about 10 years ago, I was completelly lost and couldn't understand much of what was going on. After years of listening to lore videos (Installation00, Luc, etc) and reading the story from the books I would get here and there, my brain became fine tuned to understand everything better. It's actually not as deep as I used to think it is. It's a fun story, pretty linear with some branches deviating from the main story, like some of the short stories in this book. I like the world building though. I'd put it over Star Wars personally.
>>25306738What's the proper reading order? Do I need to have played the games?
>>25335004Wait for this one>>25307773They're rewritting the story of the first 3 books. With some luck, they made The Flood more interesting as a book. If not, the game will remain a far better entry point than it.This one >>25330444 is also going to be a story about the Flood, so this is probably what they're aiming at. They want to make this part of the story more book friendly.I think you need to have this part fully read in order to skip to Greg Bear's literature, and consequent books. Because Forerunner lore is a lot. A fucking franchise of its own. But its still tied to Halo and expects you to know about Halo.
>>25335004Also you technically can turn yourself into a lore master just from a single comic.Just read something about Halo (as long its canon, like Halo Escalation (one of the most excellent ones they have). Then you start digging wiki links to read about the characters and events. If there's an event that pickes your interest, get a book that writes about it.Like, you want to read more about Thel Vadam? Go for Halo Outcasts, because that book focus a lot about him.More about the Didact? That's the Greg Bear trilogy, where you see his story during the Forerunner's era.You want to read about the spartans? Spartans III, that's Ghost of Onyx. Spartans IV, I don't fucking remember but there's probably one. lolYou want to read about the sangheili and their big war post Halo 3? There's Shadow of Intent.Jega's story ties to that book. The guy is a son of a bitch. He killed billions and is ready to kill more billions.
>Be Kelly Gay>Pick a Sangheli >makes him kill and torture her OCs >He leaves unscathed, to be killed in a different book not written by heruh, based
>>25334977Fine by me, I'm just glad to get some media that isn't being actively sabotaged or shit on by activists and people that think gaming is beneath them
I grew up on the Halo books, and as a kid my Halo Fall of Reach book was held together with duct tape. I haven't read anything post 2021 or so, but Silent Storm / Oblivion / Shadows of Reach scratched that childhood itch. But the short story collections, Evolutions and Fractures are fantastic. There's one or two stories that I skip on re-reads, but overall great. I just picked up Waypoint Chronicles since I haven't kept up with any of this. Anyway, anyone got recommendations for some good military scifi?

>>25338293
>>25337986Fall of Reach tells the story prior to the retaking of Installation 04. It's the origin story of Master Chief, from when he was a kid, being selected for the spartan program, to adulthood, the moment Reach is destroyed by the Covenant. None of this is in Halo CE.Halo Infinite also isn't the first story in Zeta. The Rubicon Protocol is. So Halo Infinite is to The Rubicon Protocol what CE would be to Fall of Reach.
>>25338636Ok, technically The Rubicon Protocol isn't the first story set in Zeta, but it is the first after the ring is teleported to another direction of space. It's the book that starts this story.
I'm reading this one currently. But it's one of those where you read for the characters and world building because the story is piss. The fucking mcguffing feels like something out of One Piece, the characters are all racing to get there first. No please, don't write a book like this. It's silly.
I feel like a lore monster knowing Sovolanu is how Reach is named by Sangheili. It's the type of shit that gets you likes from Halo lore professionals if you use it on Twitter.
