NeoPlatonists were so correct that they were suppressed for the entirety of intellectual world history, especially in the current academic zeitgeist with their odd, retarded, agendas of destroying everything, building anew, and then destroying that. (See the life of Thomas Taylor on the academics of Britain)
>>25309682>Thomas Taylor on the academics of BritainSauce?
>>25309749There are multiple YouTube documentaries about his life, but this one specifically has sources from his life, such as Taylor's disagreement with the term "NeoPlatonism" itslef due to Plotinus's spirit being that he did not intend to remake Platonism, &etchttps://youtu.be/907r__iZ8hE?si=3hjEDDD15nhPL7oVI am making this thread after reading the introduction to Oxford's Presocratics with the translators constant bickering about how the Platonists and co. act. It is pretty reddit seeing how much this is normalized (you can understand what I mean if you read the introduction of Plato's Complete Works and other philosophical literature printed specifically from Academiaâ„¢)
>>25309682>suppressed for the entirety of intellectual world historyok so you disavow any actual connection to philosophy in consequence of philosophy having led up to Christianity
>>25310070What about Judaism?
>>25310752so, the jews who were left behind became talmudists and are cursed by [Jer 29]> Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon; 16Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity; 17Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil. 18And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them: 19Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.
>>25311074Halfly true though, not all Jews became Talmud fanatics since the Talmud itself would describe those who do not believe in it but still go to Heaven in virtue that they are a Jew and not a Gentile. Besides that (and thinking on the Zohar) we know that Judaism (religion created after Christ* destroyed the temple in 50AD [see Josephus's testimony of the destruction in his book]) is a product of Neoplatonism, or as commonly called "Hellenism". The Tetragammatron is quite similar to Proclus's thoughts.
>>25309758Neat. Thanks anon. Bump
>>25309682>suppressed for the entirety of intellectual world historyNot really, they have only been cockblocked by american pragmatism but for the rest they have been a literal omnipresence in western culture since Plato onwards - and possibly before if you want to read the whole golden chain thing as real, to the point that modern Neoplatonists as Lloyd Gerson basically say thinking=being a platonist. If you look at history of science, modern science basically emerge from platonic premises applied to observation. It's not by chance that heliocentricism re-emerges after Ficino's translation of the platonic corpus, and you have people like Copernicus (with extensive knowledge of those texts) going after it; Bruno imagining celestial bodies as other suns and planets; Galileo again operating in a wholly platonic mindset. Neopositivism and materialism proposed by philosophically uneducated people (=americans) is what gives you the impression of a current weakening of the platonic perspective, but this is but an illusion. The platonic line of thought continued through the greatest scientists of the latest century (Heisenberg, Einstein, etc.) as well in unexpected places like science fiction (PKD was probably the last platonist in the golden chain, if you believe in that).Genuine attempts at an overthrowing of Platonic metaphysics, or dealing with the problems he laid out have been done by Nietzsche, Heidegger and Deleuze - up to some Nick Land stuff; all proving that platonism is alive and well and still stirring discussion among people who actually read philosophy books. I don't even start with problems around consciousness and qualia because platonism is so present there that it's embarassing to even mention it.
>>25309682based and correct. more people need to grow out of 'belief systems' and just understand the first principles, common sense thought of the neoplatonists.
>>25309682>Ancient religion/philosophy didn't survive so it must be correct!I don't get this obsession some people have with Neoplatonism. It's the same life-denying BS on how there is a far better world after we die in this current ILLUSIONARY world (so fucking deep and original). Christianity is essentially a watered down version of it, as Neoplatonism was the largest religious/philosophical ideology in Late Antiquity. The big difference between the two is that Christianity didn't accept reincarnation and they were very exclusive in their way of "truth."
