How does this blue hair nigga keep getting better?
>>25310271I haven't caught up since Skin Game, but I fucking love me some Harry Dresden
>>25310271I want to like these books so bad, but I can't. I'm sure if I started reading them at 15 I would have, but from the very beginning it feels like it was written by a computer geek that wanted to write noir but watched too much anime.even after like five books Dresden still acts like a teenager with a chip on his shoulder, always running his mouth for no reason or provocation. He's also constantly doing dumb shit or allowing dumb things to happen. I got fed up with it in blood rites when that chick tries to shoot him and he puts his bare hands on the pistol and then walks out carrying it for all to see; later, he turns his back on a woman carrying a truncheon who then clocks him over the head - this was probably the fifth time that sort of thing happened in the series.I would understand if it was his first rodeo and he was 21 or something, but by that point he's in his thirties and six books' worth of experience under his belt at minimum. He's such a stupid jackass
>>25310316I hear you and it's fair to not like him because of that but do keep in mind these are two aspects so crucial to the character that they're written on his character sheet. His mouthing off is an intimidation tactic + mental state management tool. By making a habit of talking shit it will always be his default in the face of danger which offsets opponents and makes him act out not being afraid, helping him conquer his own fear. The same is true with his treatment of women, he both protects them and does not consider them as threats in a way that is nearly misogynistic.Even in book 18 when he's told it's a very 'young' thing by a very old person to not consider all people as threats he means he doesn't consider them as threats because not everyone means him immediate harm, but the subtext is the person telling him is pointing out this perpetual weakness of his regarding women.Anyway Twelve Months is the best book since Changes imo.
