>Even though truces and even alliances were forged during the Middle Ages between Christian theology and Greek philosophy (on the basis of Aristotle), the long-term result of their struggle was to strip philosophy of the right to address metaphysical questions autonomously. Sadly, philosophy responded by going to war, not only against theology, but against the very idea of God. This is, in my view, one of the great tragedies of the West.>Another good metaphor for it is the Archimedes Palimpsest. It is a prayer book copied on parchment in Constantinople in the 13th-century Greek. In 1906, Danish scholar Johan Ludvig Heiberg found beneath the visible text two works of Archimedes that were thought to have been lost, and the only surviving original Greek edition of his work On Floating Bodies.>Western civilization is a palimpsest: what has been written over can still be recovered: we are fundamentally Greco-Romans, not Judeo-Christians.Thoughts on Laurent Guyénot's latest article, "The Crucifixion of the Logos?"
Boomerslop. The west has bigger fucking problems these days.
>>25310712This article is apparently generating a lot of seethe from philosemitic boomers.
>>25310712I am very partial to a return to neo-Platonic or Aristotelian modes of thinking the divine, but i think trying to fit it into Greco-Roman vs Judeo-Christian is useless slop. Christianity as we have it is as much a Greco-Roman product as a Judeo-Christian one. The trinity, christ as logos, etc. are all deeply Greco-Roman. The lapse of Philosophy into religion was similarly a Roman development that happened on roman terms, not Jewish ones. On the other hand, the enlightenment was a gift of Islamic philosophical scholarship that had maintained the flame of Greek thought while Europe was stuck with the scraps of Roman religious thought. And most of the "Western world" is a later Anglo-American invention, and has little to do with Greece besides its remnants in the education system. Similarly, the greatest modern thinker of the philosophical God over and against the theological one is Spinoza, who of course is Jewish and wrote in Latin. All the cultural categories are jumbled because thoughts transcend cultural boundries, and trying to make a clean race-based narrative out of it is doomed to be wrong.
>>25310712Are you trying to talk about the difference between Pagan Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian philosophy in Western civilization? Someone fill me in on what OP is talking about, I'm interested.
In what ways is the west JUDEO-christian according to those who argue that it is?>philosophy>architecture>sculpture>theater>literature>the vast majority of our institutions>our legal system, save for anglos, whose legal system is germanic>our engineering>our lingua franca up until the 20th centuryAll Greek, Roman or Greco-Roman in origin or character. What the fuck did jews contribute to all this?
>>25310712>truces and even alliances were forged during the Middle Ages between Christian theology and Greek philosophy
>>25311907>Christianity as we have it is as much a Greco-Roman product as a Judeo-Christian onewhen God stopped sending prophets after malachi, He raised up socrates plato aristotle and alexander to spread their message, so that when He sent His Son, people were thinking about the nature of the good
>>25312210The West, speaking of the civilization that emerged around the tenth century, is Christo-Teutono-Roman, and the sons of Abraham certainly had a role in Christianity, but there's no point in adding "Judaeo" before Christianity except to show that you have a really strange fetishistic reverence for Ashkenazis.
>>25311907>On the other hand, the enlightenment was a gift of Islamic philosophical scholarship that had maintained the flame of Greek thought I think you mean the Byzantines, retard
>>25310712It’s slop, loads of philosophers still talk about God, many great philosophers in the canon were theists, and you can do metaphysics without God as well. Absolute slop probably written by AI.
>>25312185you can read the article on unz. it's worth reading
>>25310712>to strip philosophy of the right to address metaphysical questions autonomouslylmaovacuous word vomit
>the long-term result of their struggle was to strip philosophy of the right to address metaphysical questions autonomouslyI'm not a fedora so I don't see the problem. What is the point here, is this some enlightened centrist take where he sees value in thought with or without God?
STOP USING "JUDEO-CHRISTIAN">STOP USING "JUDEO-CHRISTIAN"IT IS A XII CENTURY JEWISH PSYOP TO EMBED THEMSELVES IN WESTERN CIVILIZATION MYTHOS
>>25312620Meanwhile...>Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.>These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.>Men and brethren, I [Paul] am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee>Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous, and thus save some of them.>But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root[b] of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.

Did a single one of you even read this article? You people are so lazy, I swear to God.
>>25316133There's no need to. He's been writing the same article for like 2 or 3 years on Unz, with little variation; they're all basically in the polemical genre of finding something he doesn't like about modernity and then pinning it on his constructed Judeo-Christianity or whatever. This is when he's not writing about bizarre revisionist chronologies and discredited 9/11 theories. The quoted passage is slop that gets almost everything it says wrong and displays no improvement from the past articles he's written. If people want to read about the relationship between Christianity and ancient philosophy they should read a good book.
