Are you guys particular about the publishers of the books you buy/read from?

No, but I do gravitate towards certain publishers, which is normal, as they each sort of "specialize" in the kinds of books they put out.

Yes. If the publisher is “independently published” it’s a shit scam, probably taking some work where the copyright ran out and just directly copy pasted from online. If is “Osprey” it’s full price for a book that’s 50 pages.
I like the Penguin. Lil guy has never failed me.

I try to avoid any book published after 2010, if that counts.
>>
no, a paperback book is a piece of junk no matter who published it and that goes for most hardcovers too

all I really want is for the paper grain to be facing the right way on both the pages and the cover, and for the margins to be big enough. Most publishers don't seem to get this right and the result is a book I have to kinda force open.
The new vintage editions are pretty good, they lay open flat and have a nice flop, the newish Steinbeck centennial editions were a very comfortable reading experience. People seem to love NYRB or the 80s vintage contemporaries but neither of them really nail it imo.
I just got this Lispector collection from New Directions that's a ~650 pager that requires way too much force to keep open, real pain in the ass reading this thing.
Ultimately though I can read whatever, doesn't really matter

Not what was asked
>>
>>25314216
No but I buy the version based on their covers

I avoid la nave di teseo for how gay their catalogue is.

I wanna read more nottetempo because they might be the only trully highbrow publisher in italy, but every time I pick up one of their books it's so boring and highbrow that I can never finish them.

Scarlet Imprint is the only alternative academia publisher that is noteworthy.

Einaudi is the most consistent publisher in Italy, quality wise. I check every time they publish something new.

SIS_mondadori is better than NNEditore at translating, but has the worse catalogue (so I usually pick the original work if it's published by NNEditore) (They are practially the same thing, Coca Cola vs Pepsi tier of sameness).

i like hunting for obscure university press imprints. no i wont share any.
