> Being and Time (1927) is Martin Heidegger's seminal work, a foundational text in existentialism and 20th-century philosophy that explores the meaning of "Being" through an analysis of human existence, or Dasein ("being-in-the-world"). It introduces concepts like authenticity, anxiety, and the inevitability of death, arguing that understanding our finite, temporal existence is key to grasping the fundamental question of Being, which traditional philosophy had neglected. The book is known for its complex language, neologisms, and profound influence on fields like literary theory, psychology, and postmodern thought.Discuss /lit/
>>25315081I'm only like 100 pages into it, I probably should have revisited Kant, Augustine, and Aristotle first. It's interesting but I have a sneaking suspicious I'll be able to summarize it with some visual diagrams at the end. We'll see.
Tedious horseshit just like most philosophy
>>25315081Thanks Martin, now I know what Anxiety and Death are!
>>25315083It has been done before.
>>25315444cracking up at the 'burial space'. is that actually part of the book, the idea of tombs? seems intriguing. i've read his 'origin of the work of art' and his interpretation of the ode on man from antigone, and in both i was drawn to his idea of ruins, as the remnants of our 'historical being-there'.
>>25315081Am I crazy or did Heidegger actually manage to use the term three parentheses ((the (they))) in Weimar Germany and get away with it

>>25315874Elaborate.
>>25315241Heidegger has a direct effect on humanoid robotics.
>>25317207Dasein doesn't die biologically the way that animals do, burial space is of no importance to Heidegger
>>25315874>you wouldn't last 2 weeks in a philosophy grad school courseGet a job.
>>25315081Werner marx raises the discussion point about what that would happen if substance were and had univocity with being what affect that would have on the image to heidegger’s in-der-werld-sphere-bild-idea- aloof islamic avicenna al farabi symbol inscription upon the text and also how that would affect dilthey’s ‘idea to historicity’ or something like that
I have the book but haven't read it yet.
>>25318366Same, I downloaded the pdf and I came to this thread to see if I could find anything useful, but of course it's just people hurling shit at each other
>>25315444Unironically, what does burial space refer to? I can't remember anything like that in the book, although I imagine it refers to the end of possibilities of being, which is obviously a big part of Heidegger, but why is it worded as "burial space"? Not trying to dunk on this nor anything. Genuinely find it interesting, as I feel Heidegger's only weak point is that he doesn't go very deep on the body and spatiality.
>>25318366>>25318401Definitely worth the read. He was super fucking Nietzschean on this one. Being and time is also a book where if you understood it then you realize it's not a typical philosophy book to provide lecture style arguments but it frankly will cause you to see how you have always and will be at being in the world.
