I'm about to read this. Spoil it for me. What exactly does this Socrates fellow have to be sorry about? From the rest of the Dialogues I've read, he seems like a stand-up bloke.

he was charged with corrupting youth, he was supposed to be fined and his friends were willing to pay the fine for him but he was an arrogant ass so they sentenced him to death, his friends wanted to help him escape but he refused so he died

The apology is actually from Plato
His apology is for that awful joke Scorates made about 'owing Asclepius a cock', for his final words.
Socrates died after the joke failed to land (since everyone was too busy crying) so Plato called the book 'Apology', since socrates wasnt around to apologise for it anymore.
