why was he so against non-euclidean geometries?

to preserve his sanity from the lovecraftian horror

no one had invented them at that point, all everyone knew was euclid

Meme answer: it wasn't around when Kant was writing. He could neither oppose nor support it.

Serious answer: you can quite literally just take his statement from either A or B version and change it to something like:

>triangles don't need to add up to 180 degrees
>if less then hyperbolic
>if more then elliptical

This doesn't damage his philosophy at a core level. It's still controversial but it's also likely he wouldn't have tried to oppose, if anything he probably would have ignored until such a time he couldn't.

He’s not one of them gay homo flags unlike op

non-euclidean geometry is just what happens when you bend space itself.

*hits bong*
I figured it all out now
*coughing*
space and time are not really real
*hits bong again*
because geometry can't be a science otherwise

Everything he said was refuted within a century but there are still retards who insist on starting from his foundation.

Because the idea of matter or mass having any physical (or non-physical) effect on 'space' would have seemed manifestly absurd. Space was never a 'thing' in the world, nor does it have any absolute existence. It was always a 'form of pure intuition'. How can the presence of a thing, e.g. a planet, affect a pure form of intuition? That is the question that no one has even asked because no one understand either Einstein or Kant.

T b h it's suspected several people discovered them independently, including euler, but didn't want to deal with the giant shit storm it would cause so kept their discovery private. I think Euler was one, based on one of his journals. I forget if the dates line up right for that being when Kant was alive.

I need to sleep I forgot I had already mentioned euler. I hate insomnia

What foundation would you start from?
