Likely simply accepting it, through lack of control or power, due to her low caste she was likely unable to say no to anyone, let alone a non-Tamil speaking foreigner of high status.. But, we cannot know for certain, it is of course possible, though maybe not likely, that she truly did not care, and her form of consent, in her culture, in her caste, in that period, was simply non-resistance. Though the lack of accepting the gifts does suggest she was not interested.
