A friend from high school just called me out of the blue and admitted that he has an IQ of 96. He feels as if he has no understanding of high concepts as I do, reading so much and all. I wanted to cheer him up and show him you can still enjoy reading with that IQ. What are some books (that are still high-status fiction) that you think he can read?
Introduce him to national epics such as Beowolf, Das Nibelibung, The Tain, etc
>>25316649IQ tests don’t have anything to do with higher concepts besides patterns in groups of numbers and shapes. This is why bug races like asians routinely score higher on them.
Dubliners, for sure
>>25316662There actually is a separate verbal portion of the IQ test which checks rote verbal knowledge (ie only if you can spell the words but not if you know what they mean). The highest word on the list was Pusillanimous when I took it.
>>25316667I don’t remember that. I do remember having to put blocks together like a Rubik's Cube, but this was a very long time ago.
>>25316649don quixote. it's nothing but toilet humor, he'll love it.
>>25316666>DublinersI've heard Joyce is way too complex. Would that be too much for my friend?
>>25316680i think theres a possibility he might have questions, but its Joyce’s easiest
>>25316679>nothing but toilet humorHe's surprisingly not into this kek. Total clean freak has OCD.
>>25316687drat. that was the only situation in which i could recommend don quixote. i don't like toilet humor either.in that case i'll go with hemmingway. simple stories, easy words, lots of action. "to have and have not" is a good one that gets overlooked.
In that case you were given a fraudulent IQ test made to gauge docility and obediance to authority. When they start bringing out props to larp as IQ test administrators you know that you are dealing with some clowns. Do you remember white lab coats and being led thru long stretches of unremarkable hallways that felt like ages and ages to walk through? Did you ever got abruptly woken up by a bright lanturn being shined in your face?
96 is just slightly below average. This shouldn't be a problem
how about something that he enjoys, if his IQ is not too low for him to identify that
>>25316687Yes! Someone said Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises!! I love that book. The count of Monte Cristo. The three musketeers. All quiet on the western front
>>25316649>I wanted to cheer him up and show him you can still enjoy reading with that IQ.Sadly not that accurate, in my experience.
>>25317044Explain
I.Q. is very useful but it has it's pitfalls.96 falls into the normal range, but it's not an absolute number and is calibrated based on the surrounding population. It also has many subtests with a decent variation.
>out of the blue such a beautiful idiom
>>25316649Lewis Carroll has some fun booksThrough the Looking Glass, Alice, etc
>>25316649Blood Meridian should be perfect for his level
>>2531664996 is around average, he should be OK with most books anyway. However, it is possible the IQ score is the result not of low intelligence, but of a short attention span, in which case, tough luck.
>>25317181Those are for kids nigga. Recommend something adult for OP
>>25317342Kek. I say we stone OP’s 96 iq friend to death
