It wasn't until 2002 when manuscripts were discovered in an archive in Poznán that Frankenstein nature of Chojecki (and by transitivity Radrizanni and Maclean's versions) Polish edition. The manuscript discovery revealed that there was a version of the text started in 1804 but left incomplete by Potocki. He started to write the fifth Decameron but heavily scratched out his attempts. He gave up and started over in 1810 completely rewriting the text with a different style and tone: more serious, grave, and religious, and less baroque, light, and libertine.
