Strauss wasn't evil. He was highly concerned about the decay of morality in the West, actually. He was a secular Jew but heavily criticized secularism because he didn't believe it could maintain social order and virtue.Blaming Strauss for the Iraq War is bullshit.

Wolfowitz and Perle were more affected by Wohlstetter, Rumsfeld and Cheney were their own thing, and so on. The so-called Neoconservative mission to make Iraq a democracy was, if anything, a belated lurch toward new messaging for the second Bush election campaign as it became clear that the initial justification for invading (the presence of WMDs) turned out to be bullshit, Rumsfeld was totally against regime building.

This is becoming more apparent as the 'heterodox'-branded Vance is sidelined in the current Trump admin in favor of Rubio who has been the poster boy for the ongoing neocon grievances against Cuba and Iran.
