Due to how big the british empire was and how many different linguistic roots english has it's by far the easiest language to pick up and learn in the whole western world. That doesnt make it more well suited for poetry or music but it does work when you want to have a specific language be next to universal and spoken through the whole world, these 2 things are just not related to each other and if anything english's simplicity makes it feel quite gross to speak sometimes

Same applies for Spain (which has way more than Cervantes), Brazil, Portugal and even the greeks. Russians, finns and swedes spent a lot of time indoors due to weather conditions but you hardly hear of them being spoken about as much as the english
