Is Anse one of the most despicable characters in literature?
>>25322992That might be a bit of a stretch but he's pretty annoying yeah. Faulkner did give us several people it's a pleasure to hate. Jason Compson, Caroline Compson, Flem Snopes, Anse Bundren.
>>25323018Yeah, I think the hypocrisy of the whole South is compressed into them as characters in his novels.
That little slut who fucked for an abortion was
>>25322992His wife (don't remember her name) who cheated on him was far more evil.
>>25323018Jason was just doing what was right for his family. He just needed one big hit on the market and they were taken care of, fucking whores always getting in his way. Why couldn't more women just be like mother? My head hurts..
>>25324071Anse being a lazy, pathetic worm didn't help things, though Addie was a bitter, kinda crazy woman. Can see where Darl got it from.
>>25322992he just needed a new set of teeth>picis that Tim Blake Nelson?
>>25324095Yeah. He played Anse in the terrible James Franco directed adaptation.
That one joke Peabody makes about Anse towards the end of the book is goated. Something about how lazy Anse was to bring a shovel and needed to borrow it off of someone, the guy's probably also needs to borrow a hole in the ground to bury his wife too kek
>>25324109Franco made more than one Faulkner film? I'm only familiar with TSaTF, never seen it though.
>>25324111Well well well, I'm only familiar with the As I Lay Dying adaptation. Had no idea about that. Guess it's a Franco-kino night.
>>25324111>>25324116Oh fuck and he's Benjy. This is going to be great.
>>25324116Report your thoughts back later if you don't mind, I don't have the stomach to watch that abomination but I'm still super curious.
>tfw no fishmother gf
>>25324095And a new wife. The old one wore out.
>>25324086Yeah, Jason's bad rep is undeserved. His bitterness is hard to like, but there are good reasons behind it.
>>25323262she never got the abortionthat hillbilly just gave her some shit he cooked up
>>25324217>I CAN'T BREED
>>25324230>I CAN'T READ
>>25324236there's no indication that she did get oneall that hillbilly told her to do was come back at dark because he was going to rape her
>>25324111he also adapted child of god
>>25324241he said "fucked FOR an abortion". applying FOR a job doesn't mean you will get the job. retard.
>>25322992He's one of the most despicable fathers/family men in literature maybe. But characters in general? Nah there's much worse.
>>25324257if i say that your mom sucked her dealers dick FOR an eight ball than I think you'd take it to mean that the transaction has already occurred, faggot
>>25324273I know how to read, so no, I wouldn't.
>>25324276>she had sex for an abortion>she was tricked into having sex for an abortiona world of difference, ESL
>>25324086why couldn't he just give dilsey that ticket
>>25324273NTA but sucked implies past tense. So yes it already occured. Unless you want to make semantic extrapolations like "well I never said he gave it to her". The information provided assumes the transaction occured without issue.>I paid for the food.>I am paying for the food.>I will pay for the food. For is irrelevant. Finish third grade.
>>25324257NTA once again but you're conflating tensive nuance and cognitive presupposition. If I said I went to the pawn shop and traded my guitar FOR a watch then the transaction occured. It is absolute. We don't have information that conflicts with the statement and if this statement is operating within a world of reason as we know it then it either did happen as was written or there was some sort of hangup that occured outside of the narrative. It's still equally safe to conclude that the goal was or wasn't reached but within the context of a narrative in which things must continue and you're required to assume that minutiae still occurs even when not being observed it is safest to assume that things moved along as described. The ball is still there even when I cover it with this towel anon.
You people talk like you believe all characters in a story are holding their breath and standing still unless the author tells you they're not. Then again this is a Faulkner thread so how would any of you ever be able to read without following your finger under each word as your professor tells you what it says?
>>25324358Okay.
>>25324291both of those images are the same, Samir
>>25322992He probably was when the book first came out in 1930. But this opinion has almost certainly been outdated since then.>>25324230>she never got the abortionAnon wasn't implying she did, go back to high school.>>25324111Checked, and yes he made two Faulkner films and they're both atrocious. Not "so bad it becomes funny", just so bad it's simply atrocious.>>25324217You want to be White so bad.
>>25324345you can't infer success or acquisition from "for" in the manner anon wrote, only intention or desire. this is all just one big "um actually" from retards too fragile to admit they can't use context and deduction.
>>25324384Did you just make an entirely new post to change "to" to "too"
>25324394
>>25324118absolutely cursed image, delet this
>>25324394Phone posting just to ask if you could you say that again ooone more time
>>25324379>this level of faggotry
>>25324418ContextAndDeductioncels versus the humble to, too, and two
>>25324403>>25324418my god who fucking cares, you vermin are fucking mindless drones
original fucked for an abortion poster here: it can be interpreted either way ;)
>>25324394Did you just make an entirely new goalpost change from referential inferences to grammar nazism
