I gifted a girl at work the contributor copies I had of poetry periodicals I was published in. She disclosed she was on the edge of madness to me soon after and didn’t turn up to work for 2 weeks. The police were involved and all that, but she never gave my contributor copies, they were small press literary journals, back. This was the umpteenth time a woman has either not given back a publication I lent them, and if they do return them, it’s covered in makeup or severely damaged from being held in a purse. Does anyone else have horror stories of gifting women books?
