my environmental science teacher in high school was an old hippie outdoorsman guy, he had a bunch of copies of this in his classroom and would give them out to people to read if they were interested
it's obviously very polemic and not much of a novel but I think that viewing things through the "civilization narrative" or whatever he calls it is a decent critical tool, and the idea that, given time, other types of animals may evolve higher intelligence is fun to think about
