Why aren't you writing a children's book /lit/? You do want to save the youth don't you?
What children need is some kind of occidental version of Noh theater and the role of writing there is so minute that it‘d be stupid to venture on without musicians and actors.

>>25332331While I'm awaiting my translation of the Fushikaden, can you explain why?>>25332340The bittersweet beauty of childhood explained in a way only an adult would care about.
>>25332313The Odyssey was once recited to children. What we see in modernity is an inversion of traditional pedagogy. In the past, children were trained to become adults. Today, childhood is seen as somehow a virtue in itself, and every attempt is made to artificially extend it. Children can understand a great deal if they are expected to from a young age. So, what I am saying is that "children's literature" as a phenomenon is evil. Maybe very very little children LEARNING to read can have their fables and fairy tales, but they need to grow out of that.

>>25332343It‘d introduce them to archetypal/culturally significant figures and anticipated human conflicts within their societal moral framework. Moreover it’d do so in a way that exposes them to the full range of artistic expression and can leave an impact for what they find most suited to pursue in life.

>>25332313is this ai sloppa
>>25332348Why do you distinguish The Odyssey from fable and fairy tale?
>>25332417Kind of depressing that "Dungeon Adventure Slop" is a thing. Why should kids be expected to understand or partake in this sort of hipster irony? Why not just have an adventure book that's not self-aware of it's own cliches? It's bad enough that the book is obviously immersed in retarded identity politics. Of course they're not going to call that part "slop", no, that needs to be taken with the utmost seriousness. Therein lies the true irony.
>>25332417Meant to quote OP, my bad. But since we're here, I'll answer and say it's the level of detail and narrative depth, as well as the relative seriousness/gravity of the subject matter.
>>25332313I did a teaching course and they brought in children's books and talked about how they're oppressive and sexist. They also brought in children's books where characters are faggot or trans and said these are what we should use. I quit teaching because of that.

>>25332444Where do you draw the line? The Táin? The Matter of Britain? Spenser? Dunsany? Eddison?
>>25332348I've never understood the point of books like these. It covers for what, maybe 1 year of development at that? Its kind of unnecessary. In my own personal development I never had them used. I was reading the hobbit on my own pretty quickly and before that my dad just read to me. I'm not even sure I was even sapient during the time when I was totally illiterate. A kid that age would be more busy learning how to walk without falling than learning to read, no?
children's books are even more gatekept than regular literature
T Roper, I get it.Sue D, I don't get the joke, but it's easy to spot an attempt was made. What the hell is D. V. Yent? Are you reaching for 'deviant'?
