Thanks for the replies guys....I read this book and his other books about his ordeal years ago in highschool. Then I got the impression it was a fake for a few years. I was researching some Satanic groups, and it seems to be its common for little children to be put into positions like this. There really isn't any real reason why they'd adopt a child (and claim its theirs) just to abuse it, but evil has no bounds. My next book haul I was going to buy the books again just to reread them with this mindset. idk it's interesting.

My memory plays tricks on me and whole segments of my childhood are missing unless I try really hard to think about them and then fragments come back and I fall apart and cry and cry and take days to stabilize. I never understood why the rest of his extended family hated him too. And how he was burned, stabbed and repeatedly starved without the school doing anything (IIRC it was something relatively minor that finally convinced the school nurse to call the police). The thing is is that this severity of abuse does exist, but in the vast majority of extreme cases the child has been isolated (ie taken out of school) so as to hide and abet the abuse. He wasn't allegedly isolated so I don't get how it went on for so long.
I read this in 5th grade and it fucked me up. Grew up in a really safe and healthy community (which I’m now priced out of due to transplants, alas) Couldnt understand a mother who could have such hate in her heart and a father so aloof. The scene where he’s locked in the bathroom with chemicals stayed with me.
