Nah. The much spookier truth is that these algorithms (remember apps share data between themselves) are incredibly intuitive and can borderline read your mind through analyzing your actions on apps and utilities across your phone. Oftentimes one subject it identifies will then prompt known associated related subjects. You ever look at how your Facebook account targets ads towards you? None of it is stuff you've selected or chosen, and a lot of it will be subjects you aren't even interested in. It's all based on your activity and the similar activity of other users. So basically AI has the power of the Bene Gesserit from Dune.

I don't get people who add a monstrous amount of cheese to their food. For me, I find cheese to be a binary thing, you add it enough so you can taste the flavor and you're set. Same reason you only add one slice to a sandwich or burger, same reason you only sprinkle some throughout a taco or on chili. But then you have some people who point an entire mountain on whatever they're eating. They love the cheese taste that much? Again, I find once you can taste the cheese, then adding more doesn't really do anything too different.

It's interesting the view some people, particularly white people, have on crime and putative immoral acts. For example, if I found out my father or brother or son was a serial killer, I'd still love them, I'd still be loyal to them. Whereas white people will cut off family for the smallest of infractions.

I wish it was the 7th Century BC I wish I could be happy.

In accordance with the primitive organization of the Aryan races, the Medes lived in tribes, dispersed in small towns. They elected their chiefs, just as their fathers had once elected their vicars (1). They were warlike and restless, yet possessed a sense of order, and they proved this by leading the exercise of their right to vote to the foundation of a regular monarchy, based on the principle of heredity (2). There is nothing here that we cannot also find among the ancient Hindus, the Aryan Egyptians, the Macedonians, the Thessalians, the Epirotes, as well as the Germanic nations. Everywhere, the people's choice creates the form of government; almost everywhere, they prefer monarchy and maintain it within a particular family. For all these peoples, the question of lineage and the power of established fact are two principles, or, to put it better, two instincts that dominate and invigorate social institutions. These Medes, pastoralists and warriors, remained free men, in the fullest sense of the word, even during that period when their small numbers forced them to submit to the suzerainty of the Chaldeans, [...]

Introversion is a fundamental personality trait characterized by a preference for quiet, minimally stimulating environments. Introverts draw their energy from within—their own thoughts, feelings, and ideas—and tend to feel drained after extensive social interactions, requiring time alone to recharge.

That’s how I felt as well.
My kid was reading it in class so I bought two copies so me and my girlfriend could read it together with her. The forward is useless, a couple paragraphs. The introduction is better. The appendices are interesting. Perfect for a casual reader.
On a related note, I’ve found this is the only way to guarantee someone reads a book with me. Treat it like a book club and buy them the exact same edition so you can say “let’s read to page 42 tonight” or ask them “what did you think about this thing on page 65?”
>>
>>25341112
There are actually very few actual introverts, about as few as there are actual geniuses in a crowd. Most of These so-called 'introverts' are just socially inept, retarded or have a sort of emotional issue that makes them incapable of socializing.

It has nothing to with that, there are simply people who are literally exhausted by human interaction. They were romanticized during the Age of Piracy and many pirates became so just for the adventure, so the romanticization isn't too far off actually. You might've heard that they men were kidnapped and forced to be a pirate or something, but that was actually the Royal Navy that kidnapped people. Pirates were mostly volunteers. In court you would say you were forced into it because otherwise you'd get hanged. Pirates did kidnap high skilled workers like doctors. Of course, pirates murdered to steal treasure. Life as a sailor in the Navy wasn't necessarily that great, some of those people left the Navy and volunteered to join a pirate ship.

You guys ever notice how rarely people seem to look forward to the future these days?
In the past people speculated about what the 21st century would look like in excited tones, imagining it as a futuristic paradise or a time when their wildest fantasies would become a reality through technology. Look at late-1800s speculation about what the end of the millenium would look like, 40s/50s classic sci-fi, even the Frutigier Aero wave of the early 2000s. A sense of optimism and excitement pervaded a lot of views of the world to come.
In contrast, people rarely view the 22nd century this way today. There is quite a lot of speculation about how emerging technologies will kill all of us or how everyone will end up enslaved by communists or capitalists hyper-technocrats or both, and quite a lot of talk about how our best days are behind us and the standard of living enjoyed by our grandfathers will never come again, and very little talk of the world to come as a world which one actually wants to one day live in.
>>
>>25341461
Depends on the person really, I just have a hard time getting good sleep.
On the rare occasion that I take all the appropriate steps to get a good night's sleep (exercise during the day, stop drinking caffeine, not eating less than 3-4hs before laying down, regular room temperature, etc, etc), I usually have a very restless sleep and wake up early (5-6hrs of sleep). In the even rarer instance I get 8hrs of sleep, I wake up quite groggy, almost hungover-esque, not not particularly more rested.
I'm considering doing a sleep study, but it sounds like a major pain in the ass.
Currently moving to a new apartment and getting a new bed/mattress that I'm hoping will help, along with going on a diet. I'm not particularly overweight (certainly not enough that I believe it would cause sleep problems), but it's the next thing to work on.

People were very optimistic during the 1900s and 1910s until WW1 hit the world.
Until five years ago people thought it was a question of time until the liberal utopia whereas until the end of the cold war everyone was fear-mongering about the atomic bombs and Orwellian totalitarian systems.
Optimism comes and goes and is cyclically replaced by pessimism, your low iq post isn't deep at all.

My big problem with 4chan, and posts in general is that there is a very bad word count to idea ratio.
What I mean is that little value from what is being said. Not even in a "this is useful/true/based" aspect, but "he is saying X thing". E.g. he goes on and on, about abstract, non-specific, non-falseabfile stuff, with little examples or evidence, and fails to construct an argument or narrative. You are left with a paragraph with no glue, no nice prose to read, or no point to argue. And that's the part that frustrates me: how are we supposed to argue when your point is buried by filler?
To show what I don't mean, this guy did it well. >>25340701

I can argue "hey, cheese is kickass you ESL nigger" or "you got a point there", but I can at least latch on what he is talking about in both the specific and macro. Meanwhile I swear some posts I just don't get it. I just don't.

They DO admit that. Your issue is you're thinking solely in material terms. You're ignoring the psychical (what others would term spiritual or, if you're prefer, deep psychological) realm. As in, it's not merely harsh winters -> civilization, but harsh winters -> generational traits (we can see this in studies on generational trauma, for example -- there's SOMETHING to hereditary psychology) -> civilization, and those racial traits didn't just disappear.

Living alone isn't horrific or excruciating. Sometimes I make it out to seem that way, in my thoughts. It's comfortable. Serene, even. Each day is just like the last. Quiet in my house, late afternoon sun slanting through the windows, reflecting off dust in the air. The warmth of my bed at night, late, when the only sound is the low humming of the air moving through the vents. Leaves turning colors and falling away outside, then bare branches covered in white, at the end of year after year.
The sense of self through which I experience today is the same sense of self which experienced the days of my past, and the same which will continue into my old age. It felt, for a moment, the quick warmth of the vigor and hope of youth, the bright flashing belief that things would work out just like they did for everyone else, that one day by a chance encounter the right person would touch my life and I would touch theirs. It felt, later, the dimming and cooling, as it saw the quicksilver chances to meet and touch slip through its fingers, unable to be grasped. There might have been a moment when the distance between chance and opportunity was not so great, a time when something passed through its hand and it could have held on, but this was only apparent later, when the feeling left in the palm cooled and the shape of what passed by was left impressed in the skin.
I think the last day of my life will look much like today. I'll wake up in my bed, warm, safe, take care of the day's needs, read a book or work on something. Maybe I will suddenly struggle for breath and collapse in my living room, making the effort of my life to bring air through my throat and finding I cannot. Maybe my heart will simply give out after an age spent working without rest. I'll lose strength in my legs, or fall onto my couch, and there, without anyone to see it, I'll expire. It doesn't seem so great a thing when put like that. People pass away all the time.

I can't decide if writing TFR fanfiction is cringe or not. One the one hand, it's an often terribly written chud piece of work, but some of the scenarios it presents are just too interesting not to explore. Especially a Loji China - my mind can't help but wander to daily life in an AI-controlled country where you pop open your phone and the AI dictator is right there with an anime avatar to feed you, personally, propaganda, and give you instructions, and give you pep talks, etc.

Any political theory that does not assume the maximum of conceivable malevolence from outsiders both individually and as a collective is a worthless political theory on account of being incorrigibly unrealistic. The natural state of mankind is a war of all against all. See, the problem with being European is that killing yourself is really cumbersome, and if you mess up, there's a high chance of ending up maimed for life, or a vegetable; meanwhile, any American can blow their head off whenever they feel like it, and the chance of survival is, like, 1%.

Are women even capable of internalizing and truly understanding - at least the basic idea - of death? In my entire life I don't think I've ever seen a woman truly affected by someone close to them dying no matter how tragic the death, most of the time in the case of a significant other they've waste no time in "moving on", which they love to stress is totally normal and healthy or something, in like a year and a half and long before that it stopped emotionally affecting them. Maybe it only gets through to them their rapist dies?
>>
>>25343040

Succession, Better Call Saul, Severance and House of the Dragon were absolute trash. I did enjoy Andor tho, and a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is nice in a "does not take itself seriously" way. Nowadays I prefer to rewatch something like Deadwood or some old shows I haven't seen yet, such as I Claudius or Riget.

Furiosa is great and I enjoyed Dunc for what it was. These are the only new realeases I cared about for the last seven years.
I think tv/cinema are a dying medium. Not in the sense they will disappear, but that their heyday is gone. It's like Jazz, Rock or literature, some people still like those and new artists still appear, but the medium itself will never reach its past heights.
